RINEWSTODAY Update on 4th Annual Clays 4  Charity

Experiencing Gratitude and Growth at the 4th Annual Adam Vinatieri Clay 4 Charity Event

Covering and participating in the 4th Annual Adam Vinatieri Clay 4 Charity event at The Preserve Sporting Club & Resort was a unforgettable experience.

As a two-tour Iraq combat veteran, many of the activities I enjoyed before the war became triggers I avoided after returning home—with firearms topping that list. Stepping onto the grounds initially brought a wave of anxiety as hundreds of participants walked around casually carrying shotguns. While waiting to shoot, the sudden, rapid gunfire triggered an involuntary reaction, putting me on high alert and ready to take cover.

Yet, the peaceful beauty of The Preserve’s grounds helped anchor me. Chatting with fellow Rhode Islanders waiting for their turn gradually put me at ease, and after a few minutes, the surrounding environment shifted from overwhelming to reassuring.

The commitment to supporting those who served was felt throughout the day. In separate conversations, both Preserve Chairman Paul Mihailides and NFL legend Adam Vinatieri made it clear that their dedication to veterans is far more than just lip service—it is a genuine passion. Selecting veteran-focused organizations as the primary beneficiaries of the event was an easy choice for both of them. Chairman Mihailides spoke proudly of the dozen-plus veteran organizations supported by the resort and the Clay 4 Charity initiative, including Wounded Warrior Project.

Vinatieri also stepped up without hesitation, signing a New England Patriots Salute to Service hat to be auctioned off to benefit the Italian American War Veterans of the U.S. and the Landing Zone Bronco Veteran Resource Center in Burrillville, Rhode Island.

Mihailides expressed great pride in The Preserve’s recognition as a premier resort destination in America. It is remarkable that Rhode Island holds such a hidden gem, though many local residents have yet to discover or experience it.

Following this event, I look forward to collaborating with The Preserve and Chairman Mihailides to create new opportunities for local Rhode Island veterans to visit, participate in activities, and experience the healing power of the grounds for themselves.

VA Benefits

Why Every Veteran Should Be Registered for & Using VA Healthcare

Unlike private medical insurance, the VA healthcare program offers unique benefits—including monetary assistance to help care for a veteran’s spouse.

To access this benefit, a veteran must be registered with VA healthcare and attend, at minimum, an annual physical examination.

Enrolling in VA healthcare does not require giving up existing private medical coverage; rather, VA healthcare can serve as secondary or supplemental coverage alongside existing insurance plans.

VA Aid & Attendance for a Disabled Dependent Spouse

Did you know that if you are a Veteran rated 30% or higher, you may be entitled to additional compensation if your dependent spouse requires regular Aid & Attendance (A&A)?

Under 38 CFR §§ 3.351(c) and 3.352(a), a spouse may qualify if they:

  • Are blind or nearly blind under the regulatory criteria;
    • Are a patient in a nursing home because of mental or physical incapacity; OR
    • Have a factual need for regular assistance from another person with activities such as dressing, bathing, feeding, toileting, or transferring/mobility.

The focus is on the spouse’s actual need for assistance, not simply the diagnosis.

The additional monthly amount varies with the Veteran’s rating and is paid in addition to regular dependent-spouse compensation.

If a veteran or family member needs assistance in navigating the process to be eligible for Aids and Attendance benefit for a spouse, contact John A cianci, Italian American War veteran of US Veteran service Officer who provides FREE assistance. If traveling to the Landing Zone Veteran & First Responder Resource Center is a challenge, John can assist you by phone and or travel to you. Contact information, (401) 677-9838 , email [email protected]

A good starting point is VA Form 21-2680 (Examination for Housebound Status or Permanent Need for Regular Aid and Attendance) completed by the spouse’s medical provider.

Don’t overlook this benefit if your spouse has significant functional limitations.

Vietnam Veteran Location Has Been Selected

State Commission Selects Downtown Waterfront Site for Rhode Island Vietnam Memorial

PROVIDENCE, R.I. — The Rhode Island House Vietnam Memorial Commission announced the selection of a permanent site for the long-awaited statewide Rhode Island Vietnam Memorial along the riverfront in Downtown Providence.

The designated location rests on state-owned land bordering the Providence River adjacent to Dyer Street. Chosen for its accessibility and reflective setting, the waterfront parcel connects directly to existing downtown memorial paths. It sits adjacent to the Michael S. Van Leesten Memorial Pedestrian Bridge and 195 District Park, offering nearby street access and visitor parking.

Commission officials emphasized that the scenic riverside setting provides a fitting environment for commemoration, placing the new tribute along the same pedestrian corridor as the Rhode Island 9/11 Memorial, the Remembrance Garden of Greater Providence, and the Rhode Island Irish Famine Memorial.

The site selection marks a major milestone in establishing a dedicated state memorial honoring the service and sacrifices of Rhode Island’s Vietnam War veterans
