RI Fourth of July fireworks and events: check before you go — weather is already moving some shows

Updated Friday morning: Weather continues to affect Rhode Island and nearby Massachusetts fireworks schedules. Block Island has moved fireworks to Sunday, July 5; Scituate/Hope has moved to Saturday, July 18; Portsmouth/Escobar Farm is now listed by the farm for Sunday, July 5; and Attleboro should be checked before heading out because of conflicting cancellation information. More changes are possible because of extreme heat and thunderstorms.


Schedule changes already announced

Block Island — fireworks postponed
Block Island’s fireworks have been postponed from July 1 to Sunday, July 5. The July 4 parade remains scheduled for Saturday morning.

Scituate/Hope — fireworks postponed
The Hope & Jackson Fire Company July 3 fireworks have been postponed to Saturday, July 18, from 5 p.m. to dusk, at 117 Main Street, Hope.


Friday, July 3

Attleboro, MA — Fireworks — CHECK STATUS
Attleboro High School. City page lists July 3 fireworks, but at least one media/social update indicates the events may be canceled. Check the Attleboro Fourths page before going.

Bristol — Fireworks over Bristol Harbor
Fireworks at 9:30 p.m. over Bristol Harbor.

Bristol — Vic Mellor Campaign Cookout / Fireworks Viewing
5 p.m. through fireworks, VFW Hall, 850 Hope Street. Congressional candidate Vic Mellor will host a cookout honoring military men and women, with fireworks viewing from the VFW location. Contact: Jennifer Nerbonne, 401-862-0251.

Cumberland — Fireworks and Celebration
Tucker Field, 2600 Mendon Road. Food Truck Rally and music from 4–9 p.m.; fireworks at 9 p.m. Rain dates are listed as July 5 and July 6.

East Providence — Fireworks and Concert
6 p.m., Pierce Memorial Stadium, 201 Mercer St. Food and beverage concessions, live entertainment and fireworks. Entertainment is listed as Midnight Metaphor, Brother to Brother Band, 19th Nervous Breakdown and Chiqui Versace.

Freetown/Assonet, MA — Fireworks
Hathaway Park, Assonet.

Narragansett — Fireworks
Narragansett Town Beach, 39 Boston Neck Road. Fireworks at dusk.

New Bedford, MA — Fireworks
New Bedford Harbor.

North Providence — Fireworks
6 p.m., Governor John A. Notte Jr. Memorial Park, 2 Governor Notte Parkway. Live music, food trucks and fireworks at 9 p.m.

Warwick — Oakland Beach Fireworks
9–9:30 p.m., Oakland Beach Avenue. Fireworks over Narragansett Bay. Main parking is listed for O’Hara Baseball Field, with secondary parking at Oakland Beach Boat Ramp and nearby streets. Warwick City Park on Asylum Road is also noted as a viewing area.

Woonsocket — Fireworks
4 p.m., World War II Veterans Memorial Park, Social Street. Food trucks, live music and fireworks at 9 p.m.


Saturday, July 4

Block Island — Fourth of July Parade
11:30 a.m., New Shoreham. Parade starts at The Oar, 221 Jobs Hill Road, and ends at the rotary by the Statue of Rebecca. Fireworks have been postponed to Sunday, July 5.

Bristol — Fourth of July Parade
10:30 a.m. Parade begins at Chestnut Street and Hope Street and ends on High Street. Bristol’s celebration is one of Rhode Island’s signature Independence Day traditions.

Coventry — Johnson’s Pond Fireworks
Johnson’s Pond, Coventry. Fireworks listed for 9:30 p.m.

Cumberland — Arnold Mills Fourth of July Parade
11 a.m. Parade starts near the Massachusetts border on Route 120 and ends between Nate Whipple Highway and Abbott Run Valley Road. This is the 100th Arnold Mills Parade.

Fall River, MA — Fireworks
Viewing areas include Heritage State Park, City Pier and Bicentennial Park.

Newport — Harbor Fireworks / Fort Adams Viewing
Fort Adams State Park opens for July 4 activities at 6 p.m., with lawn games, food trucks, a bouncy house and live music. Newport Harbor fireworks begin at 9:15 p.m. Popular viewing spots include Perrotti Park, King Park, Queen Anne Square and Fort Adams.

North Kingstown — Fireworks
North Kingstown Town Beach, 15 Beach St., Wickford. Event begins at 4 p.m. with food trucks and live entertainment. Fireworks begin at 9 p.m.

Pawtucket — Rhode Island FC Independence Day Game & Fireworks
7:30 p.m., Centreville Bank Stadium, 11 Tidewater St. Rhode Island FC celebrates the USA’s 250th anniversary with its Independence Day game, followed by postgame fireworks presented by Rhode Island Energy. Tickets required for the game.

Providence — RI250 WaterFire
Downtown Providence will host a full WaterFire lighting commemorating 250 years of American independence. This is separate from the city’s fireworks celebration, which is scheduled for Sunday, July 5, at India Point Park.

Seekonk, MA — Fireworks
Seekonk Speedway.

South Kingstown — Fourth of July Celebration
5–10 p.m., Old Mountain Field, 831 Kingstown Road, Wakefield. Food trucks, children’s activities, 50/50 raffle, live concert and fireworks.


Sunday, July 5

Block Island — Fireworks — postponed from July 1
Fireworks are now scheduled for Sunday, July 5, launched from a barge off Town Beach.

New Shoreham Police say they will have increased personnel on the island for the holiday weekend, including additional Rhode Island State Police support. Police will strictly enforce underage drinking laws and town alcohol ordinances. Alcohol is prohibited on all Block Island beaches, including open or closed containers, for people of all ages.

Portsmouth — Escobar Farm Fireworks
Sunday, July 5, 9:15 p.m. | Escobar’s Farm, Middle Road. Fireworks display from the back area of the property. Rain date: July 6. (rescheduled from July 4th)

Providence — Independence Day Celebration and Fireworks
7 p.m., India Point Park, Gano Street. Free city celebration with live music, food vendors, family activities and fireworks over Providence Harbor at 8:30 p.m. The event follows the Cape Verdean Independence Day Festival earlier in the day. Limited parking and road closures are expected; public transportation, rideshare, walking or biking are encouraged. No personal fireworks or open flames allowed.


Monday, July 6

Jamestown — Fireworks
7 p.m., East Ferry Landing, 1 East Ferry Wharf. Music in Memorial Square begins at 7 p.m.; fireworks begin at 9 p.m.


Saturday, July 18

Scituate/Hope — Fireworks — postponed from July 3
Hope & Jackson Fire Company, 117 Main Street, Hope. Event runs 5 p.m. to dusk with food, family activities and fireworks.


Before you go

Fireworks can be postponed because of thunderstorms, high winds, launch conditions, field conditions or public safety decisions. Bring water, plan for traffic, and check the official event page before leaving home.

In Rhode Island, only ground and hand-held sparkling devices are legal for general public use by people age 16 or older. Firecrackers, rockets, mortars and devices that launch projectiles or make a bang/detonation are illegal.
