ART! Pots and Vessels – Throw it at The Steel Yard
Ceramics! Wheel Throwing… with Ava Moniz at Steel Yard
This class will use the wheel in combination with other hand building methods to create large pots and vessels. Students will make larger and more complex shapes that build off of their knowledge of the wheel, such as potting planters, chalices, larger vases and yard sculptures. Students should be prepared to think BIG and be ready to push themselves creatively to make unique forms and shapes in clay!

This class is designed for intermediate students who have some experience with wheel throwing. Open studio hours to work on projects during the course are included. Open studio runs Monday (3-6pm), Thursday (3-6pm) and Sunday(5-8pm). Students will have access to 4 open studio sessions during their course.
Unfinished student work should be picked up within two weeks of last class.
Your instructor: Ava Moniz: “Lead Intro and Intermediate Wheel Throwing, as well as Photolithography courses. Designed syllabi, demonstrated skills in real time, and worked with students one-on-one to improve their skills. Organized student materials and liaise with Education Manager to provide clerical support.”

About The Steel Yard
The Steel Yard is a non-profit industrial art center and shared studio located in Providence, RI. We’re an arts maker space and non-traditional craft school offering courses & educational programs in blacksmithing, welding, jewelry, foundry, and ceramics. Depending on the program a student is enrolled in they may pay a subsidized fee, receive a scholarship or get paid to develop new skills.
Our public projects department fabricates functional, design-driven public-art for installation throughout Southeastern New England. These decorative bike racks, trash cans, benches, and fences are found at businesses and main streets from Western Massachusetts to Block Island, with custom metal sculptures installed along waterways, parks, schools and public spaces across the region.
We’re a community of artists, makers, and learners. We host an artist residency program for emerging and mid-level artists that provides full access to our studios and equipment. Our welding job training program pays under-employed Rhode Islanders to learn welding, shop safety, and associated skills with the goal of getting a good-paying job.
Our 3.8-acre award-winning campus is the perfect venue for public and private events and one-of-a-kind fundraisers like our annual Iron Pour.
