TODAY – National Prescription Drug Take Back Day – 10am to 2pm
Today is National Prescription Drug Take Back Day – The DEA’s Take Back Day events provide an opportunity for Americans to prevent drug addiction and overdose deaths. The event will be held nationwide from 10am to 2pm Saturday.
The National Prescription Drug Take Back Day addresses a crucial public safety and public health issue. According to the 2019 National Survey on Drug Use and Health, 9.7 million people misused prescription pain relievers, 4.9 million people misused prescription stimulants, and 5.9 million people misused prescription tranquilizers or sedatives in 2019. The survey also showed that a majority of misused prescription drugs were obtained from family and friends, often from the home medicine cabinet.
Over 40 police departments and locations will be receiving medications brought to them today.
Too often, unused prescription drugs find their way into the wrong hands. That’s dangerous and often tragic. Thousands of people from across the country cleaned out their medicine cabinets and turned in medications- safely and anonymously in April – a record amount of prescription drugs. So many that the DEA has scheduled this second event of the year.

On a year-round basis there are many locations such as CVS pharmacies that routinely accept medications – these are accessible here: https://apps2.deadiversion.usdoj.gov/pubdispsearch/spring/main?execution=e1s3
