RINewsToday – New England Foliage Report, Oct. 25, 2025

To Do in RI: Rhode Island Foliage Report – 3 drives because it’s PEAK right here, right now

Here are three simple Rhode Island leaf-peeping drives for this weekend, when color is at or near peak across much of the state:

Western RI Loop – Scituate Reservoir & Foster–Glocester Backroads

Route: Johnston – Route 6 West – Route 116 North – Route 14 West through Scituate – loop via Route 102 South.
Why: This is the classic inland foliage loop, with rolling woods, reservoirs, and stone-wall country roads. Minimal traffic, endless color.
Bonus stop: Village of Chepachet for antiques, coffee, or a photo stop by the river bridge.

Northern RI Drive – Lincoln Woods to Blackstone Valley

Route: Start at Lincoln Woods State Park, then take Route 126 North through Ashton, Cumberland, and Woonsocket, following the Blackstone River.
Why: The Blackstone River corridor is glowing right now — bright yellows and golds reflected in the water, with scenic mills and walking paths.
Bonus stop: Blackstone River Bikeway overlook for photos.

Southern RI Scenic Ride – Exeter to Hopkinton via Arcadia

Route: Route 3 South from Coventry – Route 165 West through Arcadia Management Area – end near Hope Valley/Hopkinton.
Why: Quiet, forested roads and deep mixed-oak color — perfect for a calm weekend drive or picnic.
Bonus stop: Breakheart Pond Trail for a short walk under full color canopy.

All three will be showing rich reds, golds, and ambers this weekend — with western and southern RI likely hitting true peak color between Saturday and Monday.

Rhode Island Drives at Peak

This weekend brings peak color across much of Rhode Island, especially inland and to the west. For an easy foliage day trip, try one of these local routes:

  • Western Loop (Scituate–Foster–Glocester): Rolling woods, stone walls, and reservoir reflections — the classic country drive.

  • Blackstone Valley Corridor: From Lincoln Woods to Woonsocket along Route 126, bright yellows and golds line the Blackstone River.

  • Southern Route (Exeter–Hopkinton via Arcadia): Quiet roads, deep forest color, and scenic pond overlooks — the calm side of fall.

Each offers that quintessential Rhode Island autumn mix of winding roads, village charm, and trees at their most brilliant.

Our New England neighbors will be coming to US this weekend!  Plan your trip, put the kids in the car, plan a car game – look for a yellow leaf – look for a yellow school bus, etc. – let them take their naps when they want – and don’t forget to get out for a short walk – or a longer one – and take some pix.  Cider stop?  Apple pie stop?  Roadside stand?  Take it slow and wind your way around.  Heck, Rhode Island is so small you could do all 3 drives in one day!
We’d love to publish any pix you take – either here as an update or in our daily newsletter – send to: news@rinewstoday.com
