Tina G. Pedersen: “Don’t just sit there, make a difference”
Tina went from a 4X cancer, 4X stroke, 2X heart attack survivor who suffered a spinal stroke and became paralyzed to the first person of disability crowned a National title holder in a main stream competition.
Tina was just crowned USA National SLICC Ambassador (Success through Leadership Integrity Character and Confidence)
Tina says, “I am the first person of disability to not only run at this level in a main stream competition but actually won. It’s a community service based competition. I also received the presidential lifetime achievement award for my over 4700 hours of community service last year, the overall talent award for my comedy on being disabled, the Rise up award for my continued work with cancer, heart disease, diabetes and more.
This is a huge barrier broken not only for my community to truly be seen, heard and acknowledged but the crown came home to Rhode Island .”
Her top prize has always been a mission trip to help others. She says she wants to use this platform for every opportunity she can to raise awareness.
Tina is quick to say that her story “needs to be told to help all those living with disabilities see that anything is possible, and for those not to see we can make a difference. This was a huge barrier broken being the first national title holder of disability in a main stream pageant of community service.
Here is Tina’s video entry that helped her win:
From Congressman James Langevin to Tina: Rhode Island’s very own disability champion, Tina
