Ron & Jen’s Great Escape, December 27, 2023 – Ron St. Pierre and Jen Brien

by Ron St. Pierre and Jen Brien, commentary

2024

Well, here we go again. Unreal how fast this year went by. Honestly.

But hey… life moves pretty fast… at least… according to Ferris Bueller.

I don’t really reflect on the past or live there long, anymore… it’s just a waste of time. Sure I’ve done a lot of stupid  $@#! …  A LOT. SENT ugly texts… said things I wish I hadn’t, and made decisions I wish I could reverse. (not this year, necessarily, but IN GENERAL over the years).

But I CAN’T. AS my dad used to say “it is what it is”… and really – it’s that simple.

I keep going and learning and growing and I definitely don’t look back. Waste of time.

I have a lot of friends who long for the past and what’s so sad about that is the “now” can be just as great (but different), and the time spent lamenting about what was, ruins what could be. Life is too short to be looking for what was in that rear view mirror. Waste of time.

Hey, you can see 2023 however you want. I see it as one hell of a tough year that strengthened my resolve, taught me about myself, and really helped me realize that I’m too old to be surrounded by half steppers and mediocracy.

I WANT to do more than survive in 2024… I want to THRIVE. Flip the script in 2024. Don’t be a “tomorrow person”… ‘cause hard facts… your tomorrow may never come. You don’t know when your life will end. Not to be a downer, but that’s a truth that will shock the stupid right out of you.

DON’T DRINK AND DRIVE… and… Happy New Year!

TILL next year my friends – Jen

TROUBLE IN PARADISE?

It seems Kansas City Chief fans are a tad fed up with the constant attention to the Taylor Swift-Travis Kelce romance. When CBS showed Swift comforting Brittany Mahomes in the Chiefs’ luxury box as KC was falling to the LA Raiders on Christmas Day 20-14, REAL football fans had had enough, and the social media storm began. The Chiefs are 3-5 since the two reportedly started dating and over those 8 games, Kelce has had ONE touchdown. Many of the posts referred to her as “YOKO SWIFTO”. The pair might be a bit too young to understand the reference, but believe you me, they’ll likely be educated soon enough if the Chiefs keep stinking it out. The loss guaranteed KC won’t get the #1 seed in the AFC race, and that’s a big deal as QB Patrick Mahomes has a career record of 1-1 in post season road games… BOTH in the Super Bowl.

IF IT’S GOOD ENOUGH FOR RAPLHIE

For decades, people have argued as to whether or not DIE HARD is a Christmas movie. Peter Billingsley, who played Ralphie in A CHRISTMAS STORY, has made the case that DIE HARD is a Christmas film, and he laid out his argument to DIE HARD’S cinematographer Jan De Bont. Billingsley says the movie is bookended by two Christmas-centric songs, RUN DMC’S “A Christmas in Hollis” and Vaugn Monroe’s “Let It Snow.” The production has Christmas Santas everywhere and the film’s central location is a Christmas party and cites the movie’s iconic “ho-ho-ho moment” and says it embodies the themes of Christmas of acceptance, forgiveness, love and family. And, hey, John McLain DOES almost shoot Hans Gruber’s eye out! By the way, De Bont agreed!

COSTLY TRADITION

There was substantial drop in the number of Christmas cards that made their way to the Chez St. Pierre mailbox. With the United States Postal Service hiking the price on Forever stamps to 68 cents January 21st it’s just getting far too costly to send out a card to everyone you’d like… and those E-Cards are just bogus.

NO REST FOR THE WEARY

The Stop & Shop on Frenchtown Road had Valentine’s Day candy out before Christmas.

Happy New Year!
