Henry’s Christmas Tree Farm closes, leavings tidings of great joy and tradition
It ended with a simple, “We wish you a Merry Christmas and a happy and healthy New Year. Thank you for joining us in our final season as we have made the difficult decision to close. We’ve enjoyed serving the thousands of customers that have been our guests for the last 60 years. It has been a pleasure being part of your Christmas holiday traditions. We will miss the hustle and bustle of future Christmas seasons but look forward to enjoying our retirement.”
Henry’s Christmas Tree Farm is on property that has been owned by five generations of the Henry family sine 1851 – on Seven Mile Road in Hope, RI. Over the years, the farm has had various uses including logging, dairy, poultry, and vegetable farming. They have now focused solely on growing Christmas trees – Blue Spruce, White Pine, Fraser Fir, Douglas Fir, Concolor Fir, Balsam Fir, and Canaan Fir.
They invited people to visit the tree farm to learn more about the “care and pride” the family showed in growing trees. Henry’s was one of the first Rhode Island tree farms to offer families an opportunity to choose and tag a Christmas tree. Tagging would begin each year on Columbus Day weekend. You could also choose and cut trees closer to Christmas. Their stated goal was “to be sure you receive the finest and freshest REAL Christmas tree possible”. As the posted, “We take pride in offering outstanding service as well as quality trees – something our customers have come to expect”.
One feature that set Henry’s Christmas Tree Farm apart from our competitors was their popular Christmas gift and ornament shop. On display was one of the largest selections of Christmas tree ornaments in RI. They also offered free personalization of ornaments. The gift shop was popular with families who would pop in to stay warm, and wait for their tree to be bundled and put on top of their cars. There was sure to be a snack, some hot cider, and an ornament or two to add to the collection at home.
Hayrides into the farm will be a memory for families far and wide in Rhode Island.
Henry’s is owned by David & Linda Henry. They were members of the RI Christmas Tree Growers Association, one of 12 member farms selling and promoting live Christmas trees at Christmas.
They are selling to make room for a new development coming soon!
