Homeless in RI: Emergency Housing in January 24-26 Snowstorm in Rhode Island
With low temperatures and extreme winter weather and snow expected over the next few days, here is a list of places to go that are known to the state at this time. There may be individual others organized by cities and towns and private groups as well.
Emergency pop-up sites are temporary locations activated during periods of severe or inclement weather. Hours, accommodations, and services may vary, but all are focused on keeping people safe during extreme cold conditions.

In addition, the Cranston Senior Center, located at 1070 Cranston St., in Cranston – hours are from Sunday morning to Monday morning. This is not a meal site and while there are cots, there may not be sufficient cots for all.

Municipalities may also open community-based warming centers during extreme weather events. Residents are encouraged to contact their city or town directly for information on local resources.

Warwick Public Library will be closed Sunday, January 25th due to inclement weather. The front hallway and large meeting room will be open as a warming center from 1pm to 5pm.

Emmanuel House Homeless Shelter to Open 24 hours as Warming Center in Providence; Emergency Fuel Oil Delivery and Heating Assistance Hotline Remains Staffed Through the Weekend
Emmanuel House Warming Center & Homeless Shelter
Emmanuel House, the homeless shelter of the Diocese of Providence, is operating 24 hours a day as a state warming center starting Friday through at least the morning of Tuesday, January 27. Emmanuel House is open to all who are seeking refuge from the cold and outdoors. Emmanuel House will also continue to provide emergency overnight shelter for men and women.
Those seeking shelter or warmth can call Emmanuel House at 401-421-7888 or go directly to Emmanuel House at 239 Public Street, Providence.

Keep the Heat On Emergency Heating Assistance
Diocese of Providence’s Keep the Heat On emergency heating assistance hotline will remain staffed through the weekend.
“Keep the Heat On†has provided heating and utility bill assistance to Rhode Islanders in need for close to two decades, offering assistance towards emergency deliveries of home heating oil and heating utility bills for those in Rhode Island who have exhausted other public and private assistance programs and still need help. “Keep the Heat On†has contributed more than $4.75 million in heating assistance to more than 19,000 Rhode Island households.
