At 59, I feel 39—and that’s not by luck or genetics. It’s the result of over four decades spent refining my body, mind, and approach to fitness.

I’ve dedicated:
4 decades to martial arts
3+ decades to strength and conditioning
2 decades to yoga and recovery practices

Even with all that experience, I live by one simple mantra:
👉 “Always be a white belt.”

In martial arts, that means staying humble, curious, and open to growth. It’s a mindset that’s kept me climbing the ladder of life, not sliding down it.

And if you’re over 50, frustrated with how you feel, move, or look—it can help you, too.

The 50+ Fitness Reality Check

You’ve built a great life. Maybe you’ve been successful in business, raised a family, or accomplished things you once only dreamed of. But when it comes to your health, strength, and energy, you might not feel like the person you want to be.

The good news? You don’t need to be a professional athlete—or a fighter—to feel strong, powerful, and confident again.

I’ve trained more than 15 UFC fighters, including Kenny Florian, Stephan Bonnar, and Marcus Davis. I’ve worked with professional athletes, actors, and regular men and women who want the same thing you do: better health span, more energy, and a body built to last.

The same principles that keep fighters lean, strong, and injury-free can help anyone over 50 reclaim their vitality.

The Longevity Formula: Train Smart, Not Hard

One of the biggest mistakes I see men and women over 50 make is jumping into crash diets or “30-day shred” programs that promise quick results. Sure, you might lose weight—but you’ll also lose valuable muscle mass, which is the key to staying young, mobile, and energetic.

Instead, I focus on what fighters call the afterburn—scientifically known as Excess Post-Exercise Oxygen Consumption (EPOC).

When you train the right way for 30–40 minutes, your body keeps burning calories for hours afterward—even while you sleep. More importantly, you preserve and build muscle, strengthen your joints, and improve mobility.

Try This: The White Belt Longevity Circuit

Here’s a simple, fighter-inspired workout you can do 2–3 times a week. It’s joint-friendly, builds strength, and boosts metabolism—all in under 25 minutes.

Work 35 seconds / Rest 15 seconds per move (2–3 rounds)

  1. Rotational Push-Ups – Great for chest, shoulders, and core strength while improving mobility.
  2. Kettlebell or Dumbbell Deadlifts – Strengthen hips, legs, and lower back.
  3. Medicine Ball or Water Jug Russian Twists – Excellent for core and spine health.
  4. Bodyweight Squats to Press (light weights or water jugs) – Builds full-body power and endurance.
  5. Resistance Band Rows – Improves posture and upper back strength.
  6. Sledgehammer (or Towel) Overhead Swings – Boosts functional shoulder and grip strength.

Rest 1–2 minutes between rounds. Start with 2 rounds and progress to 3 as you get stronger.

Always a White Belt—At Any Age

The secret to staying young isn’t just in the exercises—it’s in the mindset.

At 59, I feel better than I did in my 30s because I never stop learning or evolving. Every day is a chance to improve. That’s what being a “white belt” is all about.

And if you’re reading this, you’re probably ready to climb that ladder, too.

Final Thought

You’ve worked hard to build the life you have. Now it’s time to build the strength, mobility, and energy to enjoy it for decades to come.

Train smart. Move well. Always be a white belt.
