2,500 Scouts Attend Narragansett Council – Scouting America Camporee in Newport

The Narragansett Council – Scouting America’s camporee, Adventure at the Fort, brought nearly 2,500 from across New England to Fort Adams State Park this holiday weekend.

Set against the backdrop of the Narragansett Bay and the Newport Bridge, the Scouts’ campout welcomed more than 100 Troops and Packs for a weekend of adventure, fellowship and more than 50 different activities including climbing, fishing, shooting sports and sailing on the bay – capped off by the weekend’s Saturday night show featuring Scouting charges, Troop leader remarks and Rhode Island Governor Dan McKee.

“This is always an exciting weekend for our Scouts,” said Tim McCandless, CEO of Narragansett Council – Scouting America. “They have the opportunity to connect with fellow Scouts and Troopleaders from across New England, sharpen their skills and deepen their love for Scouting – all from the unique and awe-inspiring setting of a 19th-century coastal fort.”

Joined by program partners including youth programs, colleges, universities, military, historical groups, environmental organizations and nautical clubs, the Narragansett Council gives thanks to sponsors Rhode Island Department of Environmental Management, the United States Coast Guard, Guaranteed Builders, inc., Barrows Insurance, Cliff White and EA Dion, with special thanks to title sponsor Enbridge.

“We’re proud to support Narragansett Council – Scouting America’s Adventure at the Fort,” said Melissa Sherburne, Senior Advisor of Stakeholder Relations for Enbridge. “This organization shapes future leaders, builds character, and strengthens the communities we call home. Investing in their mission is investing in a brighter tomorrow for us all.”
