117th annual St. Mary’s Feast – Cranstonians welcome all

St. Mary’s Feast – it celebrates mid-summer and marks a key religious celebration in Cranston, Rhode Island’s Knightsville section.

The Feast begins with music and food on Wednesday and Thursday – Mass & Procession on Friday (and closing the feast on Sunday) – And – FIREWORKS on Sunday at 10pm.

Official hours are Wednesday through Friday – 6pm to 11pm; Saturday – 3pm to 11pm; Sunday – noon to 11pm.

The feast of the Madonna della Civita will be celebrated on July 17th this year. A 100 ft. rosary will be in the procession as it was for many years since 1970. The rosary was made for the Rosary Rally sponsored by the Diocese of Providence and the Legion of Mary. The Venerable Fr. Peyton was known as the rosary priest, and it was blessed by him. The parish and all diocesan parishes were represented at the event. Many girls in their first communion dresses and boys in altar boy suites carried the rosary. In 1970, St. Mary’s continued this tradition at our yearly feast and procession. It has been part of many spiritual celebrations throughout the East Coast. Several women refurbished the rosary and got it ready for the yearly celebration. Thanks to Fr. Mike Sisco for wanting the rosary once again to be part of our procession. To march with the rosary, meet outside of St Mary’s Church after the 10 am Mass at the fountain.

Founded in 1905, St. Mary’s Feast Society began dedicated to venerating our St. Mary under the title of Maria Santissima Della Civita.
