RI Weekend Weather Wrap – Sat/Sun, Jan 2/3, 2021
by Jack Donnelly, meteorologist
Something like a chorus line of low pressure systems dances through over the weekend, with the first getting out of our hair early on Saturday as rain and some mixed precipitation ends early, and some partial clearing takes place as the day progresses. A steep pressure gradient will lead to some substantial winds gusting from the west-northwest in the afternoon behind the systems’ passage. We’ll see some unusual warmth, afternoon highs around 50 and even above in certain spots, and lows in the mid 30’s in the evening.
Sunday 01/03/21:

After a relatively benign and chilly morning, we’ll have to deal with our back-bookend low pressure system later in the day with some rain and perhaps a mixed bag of rain and snow away from the bay and snow in the elevated arc from Hopkinton to Woonsocket, maybe even an inch or two of accumulation into the overnight. Winds will be generally light, with a morning low in the upper 20’s and an afternoon high around 40.
