RI Comic Con weekend – the biggest show in the smallest state

by Ann Clanton & Brendan Higgins, contributing writers

Rhode Island Comic Con is billed as Rhode Island’s ONLY TRUE and official COMIC CON family fun event. And that is certainly true. Rhode Island Comic Con prides itself on bringing the fans of New England The Biggest Show in the Smallest State and some of the biggest celebrities and artists in the industry. A place to make all your childhood memories come alive and to make new and exciting memories and friends to last a lifetime. A great place to find that hard to find comic book, toy and collectible you have been searching for the world over. A whole lotta joy in a world with a whole lotta stress – and just before elections.

Rhode Island Comic Con encompasses three buildings: the newly named Amica Mutual Pavilion, the Rhode Island Convention Center, and the Omni Providence Hotel. There are maps of the lower and upper concourses of the Amica Mutual Pavilon and the 3rd & 5th floors of the Rhode Island Convention Center and what and who you will find there.

There are presentations as detailed as costume making, photo opp features, entertainment, and lots of commerce.

Celebrities are divided among three areas: the lower concourse of the Amica Mutual Pavilion, the 3rd floor Exhibit Hall of the Rhode Island Convention Center, and the 5th floor of the Rhode Island Convention Center. There is a map for each of these sections, they have listed which guests you will find in each in this link: https://www.ricomiccon.com/show-layout.

From our reporters on scene: Ann Clanton & Brendan Higgins:

MASH ICONS HELP RI COMIC CON OPEN FESTIVAL AND CELEBRATE 10th ANNIVERSARY – As Ann Clanton reports from the event – “As we approach Veterans Day next week, it’s hard to believe fifty years have passed since the comedy classic MASH came into our television screens.”

Mobile Army Surgical Hospital care for the injured during the Korean War used humor to escape from the horror and depression of the situation. M*A*S*H introduced us to unforgettable characters, strong female role models and a man who wears dresses to escape the army. I am referring to Margaret “Hot Lips” Houlihan and Max Klinger. Actors Loretta Swit and Jamie Farr, who played the iconic characters help kicked off Comic Con during a Ribbon cutting ceremony Friday afternoon.

Celebrating its tenth year, Comic Con organizers joined Governor Dan McKee, Providence Mayor-elect Bett Smiley and “Providence is the creative capital,” Providence Warwick Convention & Visitors Bureau President and CEO Kristen Adamo. The three-day event runs through Sunday at the Rhode Island Convention Center and the Amica Mutual Pavilion.
