Beavertail Lighthouse

Outdoors in RI: Fishing time, Touch-a-Truck, 2A decisions, Donald Trump – Jeff Gross

by Jeff Gross, contributing writer

While the country is going to hell in a handbag… fish are biting everywhere. The above photo was taken at Beavertail Light by Sir Demi Pita.  I wouldn’t be surprised to see Stripers and Bluefish biting there as they are biting everywhere else.  Fluke are already in Narragansett Bay. Pack a picnic basket with your spouse or partner and fishing rods and enjoy a beautiful sunset, and do a little fishing as well. Just be careful with your footing near the water’s edge. The brown and green slime is quite slippery.

Check out Demi’s other outdoor photography (also for purchase) at http://www.demipita.com.

If you are out in a boat fishing, make sure you use your ECOS device. (Engine Cut off Switch). Years ago my gun club lost a beloved member who, after hitting a large wake in Johnson’s pond, was thrown from his boat. The boat’s outboard turned the boat in a circle and hit the gentleman in the head. When this writer launched his boat this past Sunday, problems with the fuel line caused the boat to lurch. If standing, being thrown overboard would likely have happened. If your outboard or inboards do not have the ECOS, the rig is easy to install.

While you are out on the water teach you family how to operate the boat and how to use all the safety gear.  If the Commanding Officer of your boat goes down, it is the next man or woman up to guide the craft to safety or marine safety unit depending on the circumstances.  Up in Maine I routinely see 10-year-olds, both boys and girls, powering a 12-foot boat; usually 2 youngsters to a boat, but by themselves. Teach your children well, as with the country in a crash dive, we need all the responsible young adults possible.  Knowing that you have a backup plan allows parents to create great memories like the fish pictured.  Great Job, Dave and Brady!

Touch-a-Truck

Parents and grandparents, looking to do something out of the ordinary this Saturday?  Seven Cedars Farm is having their annual touch a truck event. Members of the US military will also be in attendance with some of their vehicles and hardware as well.  Food vendors will be on site as well as a few other vendors as well.  See flyer for details:

2nd Amendment updates – here and there

The Illinois Assault Weapon Ban and Magazine ban cases were heard in conference May 30th for the third time.  By Monday we may have an idea what SCOTUS is thinking about with the cases.  Keep in mind NYSRPA v Bruen aka the Bruen SCOTUS case was relisted 3 times before a decision to grant Certiorari was granted.  (A writ of Certiorari orders a lower court to deliver its record in a case so that the higher court may review it). The NRS v Vullo case that was granted cert was decided yesterday, and in a unanimous decision with Justice Sotomayer writing the opinion in favor of the NRA. ( The decision held the National Rifle Association (NRA)’s claim that Maria Vullo, while acting as the superintendent of the New York Department of Financial Services, violated the First Amendment by coercing entities she regulated to cut ties with the NRA, in order to suppress the NRA’s gun-promotion advocacy). I think it is safe to say the NRA will be back in the game with this decision and newly installed leadership.

For anyone who missed yesterday’s Mandatory Forced Safe storage article here is the link below.  What I find sad is that only some Democrats ignored the Heller Scotus Decision, and as Mark W. Smith would say “thumbed their noses at the US and RI Constitutions”.  The Heller decision made it absolutely clear that firearms are not to be locked up, trigger locked, nor disabled in any fashion; as Justice Scalia clearly stated one cannot have a criminal wait while you unlock your firearm for home defense.  There are no exceptions to this ruling at all! Potential prohibited persons or children acquiring the gun are not justifications to threaten a homeowner with criminal prosecution. The US and RI constitutions are the law of the land no exceptions. Donald Trump will be informed about Rhode Island legislature’s 4th US and RI constitutional Second Amendment violations since the Bruen decision in 2022. Those who know me know I don’t bluff.  18 US codes 241 and 242 come to mind.

Donald Trump and the courts

While the MSM is dancing in the streets, keep in mind that Donald Trump has many options to appeal this sham New York decision. I say sham as Alan Dershowitz and I disagree on almost everything to do with the 2A, however Alan and I agree that this NY court sham occurred in a kangaroo court. To those interested Rhode Islanders, ultimately Trump’s case will end up at SCOTUS, those are not just my words but my 2A adversary, Alan Dershowitz, as well. SCOTUS will have the final say.  SCOTUS will do the right thing, not like the Republicans in Washington who will do nothing more than talk about how outraged they are for days on end.  Stay tuned.

Editor’s Note: Donald Trump is set to make an address this morning at 11am (note: court’s gag order still in effect). This is a good time to see how MSM cover the same issue in different ways. One station interviewing Stormy’s husband about their next movie, another saying that he’ll raise more money than ever and win in a landslide. Another focusing on appeals and voters’ reactions, while another opines on which prison he will be sentenced to. A prison sentence would be stayed until he exhausts appeals. Sentencing is set for July 11th, just days before the Republican National Convention. Even home confinement would have a chilling impact on his ability to run for President, if enacted. Common sense sentencing for what is called a first time misdemeanor with no prior record – such as a fine or probation or both – while awaiting an appeal – is not to be expected from this judge.
