Homeless in RI: New Year-Round, Statewide Emergency Shelter System is OPEN

There’s been a change for 2025-26 in that we will not see emergency shelters open and close in concert with the rise or fall in temperatures. This year, as posted and determined by the Governor, all emergency shelters will open October 1st, 2025 and close (handling cold weather and hot weather) at the end of September, 2026.

After days of warmth and a late extended summertime, the weather for TONIGHT, October 9th, calls for a Frost Advisory with a low of 35 degrees, not counting for wind chill factors.

If you need emergency shelter or know someone who does, the lists, below, should be helpful.

Here is the list of locations open for Emergency Shelter:

Note the curfew hours and other policies before you go

Note:  There may be more Emergency Shelters available that are not part of this statewide list. One is Providence Rescue Mission, at 627 Cranston St., in Providence – phone: 274-8861.  There are also various Police Departments which are open 24/7 that are opening their lobby areas for shelter.  The best resource for more information is to call United Way, which is 2-1-1 – and open 24/7.

Here are the Regional Access Points – make contact with them before going to an emergency shelter, if possible.
