Homeless in RI: Emergency Pop-Up Sites Open and Regional Street Sheets List Services

RHODE ISLAND EXECUTIVE OFFICE OF HOUSING ANNOUNCES EMERGENCY POP-UP SITES OPEN THIS WEEK
With low temperatures expected through the week, the Executive Office of Housing is announcing the activation of all four emergency winter pop-up sites to provide immediate, safe, and warm overnight shelter for Rhode Islanders in need.

Emergency pop-up sites are temporary locations activated during periods of severe or inclement weather. Hours, accommodations, and services may vary, but all are focused on keeping people safe during extreme cold conditions.

Three emergency pop-up sites operated by the Council of Churches will be open nightly from 7:00 p.m. to 7:00 a.m. January 28 through February 2. These sites are available to all individuals seeking refuge from the cold. Individuals should go directly to the locations listed below to access services:

  • Matthewson Street Church, 134 Matthewson Street, Providence, RI
  • Community Church of Providence, 372 Wayland Avenue, Providence, RI
  • Open Table of Christ, 1520 Broad Street, Providence, RI

An additional emergency pop-up site operated by the City of West Warwick will also be open nightly from 5:00 p.m. to 9:00 a.m. January 28 through January 30. This site is available to all individuals seeking refuge from the cold. Individuals should go directly to the location listed below to access services:

  • West Warwick Civic Center, 100 Factory Street, West Warwick, RI

In addition to these emergency pop-up sites, Rhode Island has seasonal emergency shelters, overnight warming centers, daytime resource centers, and state-funded year-round shelters operating across the state. A comprehensive, up-to-date list of all available resources can be found here: https://housing.ri.gov/resources/individuals-experiencing-homelessness

Municipalities may also open community-based warming centers during extreme weather events. Residents are encouraged to contact their city or town directly for information on local resources.

Street Sheets – combined resources by RI geography

Executive Office of Housing completed four new Street Sheets, which are easy-to-use, regionally organized resource guides for individuals experiencing homelessness or anyone in need of support. Each Street Sheet offers up-to-date information on shelters, food access, health care, outreach, and other essential services. To connect people with as much support as possible, the sheets include both state-funded and non-state-funded resources.
We reprint the one for the Providence area, here. Others for the East Bay, Northern RI, and Southern RI can be accessed HERE: – Scroll to the bottom of the page
