Gimme’ Shelter: Amora is waiting for love at RI SPCA – Cheryl Tudino
by Cheryl Tudino, volunteer, RISPCA, contributing writer

Cheryl Tudino, RISPCA
Hi there, I’m Cheryl, a volunteer at the RISPCA in Warwick-dog walker, treat dispenser, and part-time hype woman for our adoptable pups.
The Italian word for love is Amore.
The RISPCA’s word for love is Amora. And Amora is without a question the most perfect house hippo ever created. I must start with an Amora disclaimer. Warning: Amora is aggressively lazy. She will not hike, jog, or “power through.” She will stop walking when she feels the walk has emotionally concluded. This is not defiance-it’s called being chill.
Amora’s hobbies include:
-
Snuggling like it’s an Olympic sport
-
Treats, Treats, and more Treats
-
Staring into your soul with her beautiful and kind eyes
-
Forgetting she weighs more than a throw pillow
She loves people. She loves couches. She loves being loved. She loves love. Honestly, she would marry a couch if she could. She also believes that personal space is a myth invented by cats.
Amora does not enjoy long walks. Or short walks. Or really walks at all. She has three speeds: slow, slower, and no go. Her idea of cardio is catching treats in the air and trying to climb on your lap. So, if you are looking for a hiking buddy, keep scrolling.
This house hippo will not hold you accountable to your 2026 New Year’s fitness goals. She is very smart, eager to learn, and when she masters a trick, her ginormous smile lights up the room. She would do best with older children and a calm home that appreciates her relaxed lifestyle and respects her commitment to rest. Amora would also prefer to be your one-and-only hippo in the house.
If you are looking for a soulmate who will nap beside you, judge your life choices lovingly, and make your couch her forever home, Amora is ready. Come meet her at the RISPCA. Bring the treats. Skip the Hike. 🎵That’s Amore!🎵
