Gimme’ Shelter: Onyx here! At the RI SPCA – Cheryl Tudino
by Cheryl Tudino, contributing writer, RI SPCA

Cheryl Tudino, RISPCA
Hi there, I’m Cheryl, a volunteer at the RISPCA in Warwick, full-time treat dealer, poop scoop enthusiast, and unpaid publicist for dogs who deserve way more followers on social media.
Today’s featured gem? Meet Onyx 🖤
Named after the beautiful Onyx stone, this two-year-old Cane Corso is strong, striking, and quietly beautiful in all the best ways. Like the gemstone, she may seem a little mysterious at first, but underneath is something incredibly special.
New people and places can feel a bit overwhelming for this sweet girl , so she takes her time getting comfortable. But oncce you’re in? You’re IN! She is the Queen of the Lean. She enjoys leaning gently into you for affection, follows you closely, and loves with a quiet sincerity that is incredibly humbling. Spending time with this girl always makes me ask myself, ‘how am I even worthy of this gentle masterpiece’s affection’? In case you have not noticed, she is one of my all-time special pups. She is the kind of dog who forms deep bonds and makes you feel truly chosen.
Onyx has previously lived with other canine friends and may enjoy the company of a calm canine friend. She does not have a known history with cats or children, so introductions will need to be slow and thoughtful. She is not treat driven. This sweet girl chooses hugs and love over cookies.
There is something incredibly special about earning the love of a shy dog. Beneath her strong exterior is a sensitive, loyal girl who simply wants a safe home, a BFF to lean into, and someone who will love her always.
If you are looking for a BFF who will love deeply and loyally, Onyx may be the perfect gem for you.
