Garelick Farms donates 55,250 Cartons of Milk to the RI Community Food Bank
Milk is one of the most requested items at Food Banks Across the country.
To help fight hunger across the Northeast, local dairy brand Garelick Farms has announced it will donate 55,250 units of its shelf stable “Giving Cow” milk to the Rhode Island Community Food Bank (RICFB). The donation is the result of the brand’s month-long “Buy one, give one” campaign with Stop & Shop to help local families across Rhode Island. Milk is one of the most requested yet least donated items at food banks across the country.
“We care deeply about making a difference close to home,” said Brad Lahrman, General Manager, Garelick Farms. “We recognize that many food pantries face challenges with high demand for milk but limited refrigeration space when it comes to storing traditional milk. That’s why we’re proud to offer our shelf-stable Giving Cow milk cartons – a practical solution that helps ensure families across Rhode Island have reliable access to nutritious milk.”
The single-serve, 8-ounce cartons of “Giving Cow” milk have a shelf life for up to a year. Typically, fresh milk only has a shelf life of about 20 days from processing. The Giving Cow milk cartons are specifically designed for food banks and kids backpack programs to fight hunger and help feed families in need.
Working to Help Fight Hunger In Rhode Island
According to Food Bank’s 2024 Status Report on Hunger in Rhode Island, 38% of households in the state are food insecure.
“We’re so grateful to Garelick Farms, and to Stop & Shop for this meaningful donation,” said Melissa Cherney, Rhode Island Community Food Bank CEO. “Right now, more people than ever before are seeking assistance from our statewide network of member agencies. Milk is one of the top items requested, and we are incredibly grateful.”
