Dylan Zelazo explores run for Cranston City Council, Ward 6. Invites locals to fundraiser

Dylan M. Zelazo announced today that he is strongly considering running for City Council to represent Cranston’s 6th Ward.

He is the Director of Administration for the City of Pawtucket, where he helps lead the budgeting process, collective bargaining negotiations, and day-to-day governmental operations. Zelazo also contributes to the City’s economic development efforts.

“The neighborhoods and businesses of the Sixth Ward deserve the best representation,” said Zelazo. “I look forward to continuing to engage with my neighbors throughout the ward about the future of our neighborhoods and city. It is important that our elected leaders are responsive and focused on the needs of the residents and taxpayers they represent. There is far too much political posturing and grandstanding going on these days, and not nearly enough attention being paid to our basic quality of life needs. We need proven leaders who will focus on our needs to make sure that we leave a Cranston for our kids that is even better than the one we’ve been fortunate enough to call home. I believe I can make that difference for our ward, and I hope to earn the voters’ support.”

He holds a master’s degree in Public Affairs, concentrating in Local Government Management from Indiana University and a bachelor’s in Political Science from Providence College, with minors in Public Administration and Business Administration. Dylan lives with his wife Amanda, and their two sons, Jack (6) and Ari (5), and daughter, Brynn (9 months).

Friends of Dylan Zelazo will hold a fundraiser, hosted by Maria Bucci, Chairwoman of the Cranston Democrats, at Bistro 22 in Garden City on Tuesday, April 26th at 6:30 p.m. Residents of Cranston are invited to come by and join the gathering.

In 2020, Zelazo (D) ran for Council, City-wide and got 14.4% of the vote in a tight field of 6, with the top 3 elected. In Ward 6 Democrat Paul Bucci (D) (48.2%) lost to Matthew Reilly (R) (51.7%).

Editor’s Note:

We reached out to current Ward 6 City Councilman Matthew Reilly about his intentions to run for re-election: “At this time, I have not made an official decision. I will be deciding in the coming weeks as to whether I will seek re-election for City Council in Ward 6 or seek to serve the public in the General Assembly or Senate. I feel strongly about maintaining the financial stability of our city, but I am legitimately frightened by the direction the State is going in. For the sake of all our children, someone needs to stand up to this radical movement that will destroy this State. I look forward to announcing my decision soon. Thank you.”
