Tired of Inconsistent Workouts? The Fit Dad 50 Challenge Is Here to Help

by Kevin Kearns, contributing writer on exercise and fitness

If you’re over 50 and struggling to stay consistent with your fitness routine, you’re not alone. Life gets busy, and the gym can feel overwhelming—especially when so much of the fitness advice out there is outdated, ineffective, or even risky for men in their 40s, 50s, and beyond.

One of the biggest myths I see in the gym is the idea that how much weight you lift determines your strength. That couldn’t be further from the truth. What really matters is how you move and train for real life.

The Problem with Traditional Gym Workouts

Most gym workouts are built around bodybuilding principles—designed to make muscles look bigger, but not necessarily stronger or more functional. That’s why so many guys can lift heavy in the gym but still struggle with everyday tasks like playing with their grandkids, shoveling snow, or even getting out of a low chair without pain.

Another major flaw? Most gym exercises only work in one direction—forward. But in real life, we move in multiple directions—twisting, turning, reaching sideways. And here’s the kicker: 90% of injuries happen when moving laterally or rotationally. If your workout doesn’t train those motions, it’s setting you up for injuries when life throws something unexpected your way.

Real Strength Is About How You Move—Not Just Lifting Heavy

This is exactly why I created the Fit Dad 50 Challenge—a 90-day program designed for men over 50 who want to build real-world strength, not just bigger muscles.

I’m tired of all the fitness misinformation being pushed on men our age. Too many programs focus on dangerous, inefficient exercises that don’t support real longevity. If you’re fed up with programs that leave you sore, unmotivated, or worse—in pain—it’s time for a new approach.

No Weights, Just Results

Just last week, four guys in their late 40s at my gym asked me to take them through a leg workout. I said, “Sure—but we’re using zero weight.

They laughed at first. But by the end of the session, their legs were shaking, sweat was pouring down their faces, and they were blown away by how effective it was.

Why? Because functional bodyweight training builds strength from the ground up. If you can’t control your own bodyweight, adding heavy loads is only going to put you at risk for injury.

What Guys Are Saying About the Fit Dad 50 Challenge

Chris R. – “That was an excellent workout! I’m fried—like we did crazy weights on heavy leg day, and we used just bodyweight.”

Arthur P. – “Holy cow, just Coach Kearns’s warm-up with ladder drills had my legs on fire—but in a good way! Plus, I have an ACL injury, and Coach worked around it.”

Kenny D. – “I didn’t know what to expect. I have a sports hernia, and I didn’t feel that pain like I normally do when lifting heavy. I actually felt more agile after the workout! If you’re over 40, 50, or 60—you NEED to try this.”

Ethan B. – “I struggle to get to the gym—that’s why I meet the guys there. When I heard Coach Kearns trained 15 UFC fighters, I thought, ‘What are we in for?’ To my surprise, it was fun, exhausting, but exhilarating! Plus, Coach Kearns makes it user-friendly for us 50-plus guys. This is a must-do if you want to get in better total shape by summer—and for life.”
