POSTPONED due to weather: Back the Blue tonight in Providence

A rally called peaceful and pro-police will take place in and around downtown Providence TODAY, July 23rd from 6:45 to 8:30pm.

The rally is composed of law enforcement from throughout the region, including police, correctional officers, retired police, and families of “the Blue”.

The event will begin with a meet and greet at 6:45, which will include a display of photos of officers killed by gunfire this year and an opportunity for the community to talk with police officers.

A motorcycle / truck / car procession will start just after 7pm with a “supportive stop” in front of the Providence Police Station.

A candlelight vigil will follow at sundown, at approximately 8pm, along with the recitation of the Law Enforcement Prayer.

Families are welcome to stop by and meet the officers and photo ops are welcome. The event will end at approximately 8:30pm.

The administrator of the event, one of many others being held throughout the country, is Robert E. Coogan, Jr, described on the event materials as “a person of commitment and passion, who, purely out of passion for law enforcement and the good people he believes in and knows, organized the event as an opportunity to stand with law enforcement friends and family.”

“They are good people. We all need positive energy and a show of love and support for our brothers and sisters, mothers and fathers – in blue.”
