UPDATED: Romance “Problem” at Cranston City Council Deepens with Threatening Accusations in Question

UPDATED:  (Note the sections marked Updated) – Openly talked about in the Cranston Community for quite some time is a personal relationship between Cranston City Council President Jessica Marino and Cranston City Council Attorney and Litigation Counsel Stephen J. Angell of Angell Law, LLC.

Angell is present at most Council meetings and has a contract between the law firm and the city council that is signed by Attorney Angell and President Marino, detailing obligations and fees. The contract is signed to run to 2027.

In the contract there is a section on “Conflict of Interest”:

Partial text excerpt discussing information and potential belief.

The 3 brief meetings tonight are noted, here. It is expected when reading the agenda that the gist of the meetings will be held in Executive session, with no public commentary, or reports out to the public.

UPDATE: Mayor Hopkins disclosed on WPRO’s Gene Valicenti show that Council member Campopiano was threatened by Atty. Angel that if he did anything to ruin the relationship with Council President Marino, who he is in love with, he would take a baseball bat to his throat – we will add the audio file of this conversation HERE.  Hopkins is taking the situation to a staff meeting with Col. Winquist of the Cranston Police present.

Councilman Campopiano (city-wide representative) sent this press release out to local media:

A document detailing the Clean Air Act and related environmental regulations from 1970.

As we go to press there has not been a response to our inquiry by either President Marino or Attorney Angell.

The public part of the Cranston City Council meeting is open for in-person attendance at Cranston City Hall – or by ZOOM – and live on YouTube.

Several personal issues have been at odds at the Cranston City Council, the most recent being what was called the “forced removal” of Councilwoman Aniece Germain – in the spring of 2024. Our story, here:

I have to laugh every time I hear someone speak of our Attorney General in RI. He can’t even run his own Dept. as shown with his lack leadership, with the I’m an AG fiasco! Slap on the wrist Mr General…

I hope that Mr. Neronha runs for Governor. There is no viable candidate. He is our best hope for fighting the regime in D.C.

The fiasco was on the lawyer. It’s not up to a boss to control their reporting people outside of office hours. It casts a bad light on her. She’s an adult and a lawyer who should know better. Our court system is overloaded. From other accounts, she is a decent lawyer. Suspend her without pay for a month and let’s get back to business.

As to Cranston, I would be interested to know how Gene found the Mayor. He seems to have disappeared since his re-election. I thought he retired and turned the City over to Mr. Moretti. Perhaps he’s cruising around in the car that he claimed was a gift. That seems rather Trumpian in nature.

As to the City Council, I agree that there is a conflict of interest. Mr. Angell should recuse himself from Council and City business. It’s not a good look.
What I didn’t like about our Council was the way that Ms. Germain was strong-armed to resign from her seat. She’s one of few council members who listened to her constituents and brought our concerns to the table. I’m still looking at a mountain of debris that used to be a wonderful pool. This was unnecessary, as I said for 3 long years. Empty the pool and see what’s there. It’s finally been done and lo and behold, there was nothing wrong with the pool. There is no record of a drain so it certainly wasn’t there since 1940 or the problem would have been caught earlier. Empty promises seem to be the rule today.
