Victory Day dinner for RI World War II Veterans TODAY – John A. Cianci

The Italian American War Veterans of the United States, Inc., and the War Tribute Car Cruise committee are hosting a FREE dinner for local World War II veterans and their guest at Perella’s Ristorante, 311 Metacom Ave, Warren RI starting at 3:00PM TODAY.
“Honoring and paying tribute to the greatest generation on this day is a no brainer,” said John Cianci, Department Commander, Italian American War Veterans . “KUDOs to the State of Rhode Island for being the only state to still have a holiday for Victory Day”.
The youngest veteran in attendance will be 98 years old, Louie Dolce.
“We also offered a delivery of a meal to any of WWII veterans at the Rhode Island Veterans Home,” said Cianci. Several WWII veterans at the home have called and requested meal delivery not only for themselves, but also family who will join them.
We still will accept any local World War II veteran who is able to attend the event, which will be FREE for the veteran and their family.
Cianci is one of the guest veteran cooks. He made a 5 layer lasagna.
“I pulled it out of the oven at 2:00am,” said Cianci. (Editor’s note: and wrote a press release at 3:30am!)
Lasagna is one of the main entrees. The other entrees are Perella’s Ristorante’s Veal and Peas, and Chicken or Veal Parmingina.
Veterans will also have a choice of homemade desserts: Tiramusi, Grapenut Pudding, or Cannolis.
Genuine military dogtags will be made for the veterans at the event.
“I took the machine out of the dumpster and brought it to working condition,” said Cianci. The machine has been been used in Vietnam and Iraq (Desert Storm). According to the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs, about 240,000 U.S. World War II veterans were living as of September 2021, though the number is quickly declining. About 234 die every day.Approximately 2,400 WWII veterans are still alive in RI.

John A. Cianci is a Veteran Service Officer. Retired, U.S. Army MSgt., Persian Gulf War and Iraq War combat theater.
Cianci, a combat disabled Veteran, served in Desert Shield/Storm and Operation Iraqi Freedom. His awards include Bronze Star, Combat Action Badge, Good Conduct, and others.
Cianci belongs to numerous veterans organizations – Italian American War Veterans, American Legion, Veterans of Foreign War, United Veterans Council of Rhode Island, and many more organizations. He is an active volunteer assisting veterans to navigate federal and state benefits they have earned. He is Department of Rhode Island Department Commander Italian American War Veterans and Veteran Service Officer.
He is a graduate of Roger Williams University (BS Finance), UCONN business school* (Entrepreneur Bootcamp For Veterans), Solar Energy International Residential, Commercial and Battery Based Photovoltaic Systems certificate programs, numerous certificates from the Department of Defense renewable energy programs, including graduate of the Solar Ready Vets Program.
I believe John Cianci is a great advocate for veterans. I also believe that the RINewstoday.com should in future maybe have a Veterans Page. The page could be for information from all Veteran Service Organizations. It could be a place for all Veterans from the surrounding area to come inquire about Veteran Friendly or even Veteran only Events. A place where all the Veteran Services can add events to a calendar where all Veterans can be welcome, instead of having to search for events on all the separate organizations personal websites or Facebook pages etc. Maybe a one stop shop for Veterans to inquire about the many great events for Veterans in the State of Rhode Island. A place where we can showcase events that people in the communities like our Veteran John Cianci has done for Veterans. A location where all Veterans know that if the event is published on this site, it has to be a great validated event for our Veterans to feel safe and want to come out of their homes and be able to share in the comradery with their fellow Veterans. I think that Veterans like John Cianci continue to do great work for our Veterans, and I hope more Veterans come out and share in the mission of Veterans helping Veterans. Great job John!!!
