Ron & Jen’s Great Escape – 6-22-22 – Ron St. Pierre and Jen Brien
by Ron St. Pierre and Jen Brien, commentary
The Temp there is like Hell
Suffice to say, so far (SO FAR) no major HEAT WAVE has blown across our region yet and Thank God! Those poor folks in the Midwest and the south are melting. Last year at this time all of us in this tiny apartment nearly died from heatstroke as we were hit with an early summer heat wave in this region. It was brutal. We didn’t have the big AC in yet and honestly, I didn’t think the cat would make it. That’s how hot it was in my crib.
I see what’s happening in the middle of the country and I thank God that really, it’s been very comfortable for us around here. With electricity prices the way they are, I literally walk around my house with a candlestick like they did in the 1600’s. Now, I’m in straight up old person survival mode in everything I do. I put everything in ziplocks to keep ants out. I shut off every light and unplug everything I’m not using. I wash and reuse tinfoil. Sometimes, I even air dry my underwear, so I don’t have to use the dryer. What has happened to me? I do blame the pandemic, and with inflation I’m living in “lean” times. Maybe, though, I’m living right. Maybe I’m smart, sensible, full of wisdom.
I dunno. But if you’re ever in East Providence and see someone’s bloomers blowing in the breeze, good chance you’ve stumbled upon my hacienda.
Don’t ring the bell. I never answer. Like any other old person, I just peek out the window.
Till next time,
Jen

Facebook removed a campaign video this week by Missouri Republican U.S Senate candidate Eric Greitens that shows him carrying a shotgun and saying he’s hunting “RINO’s”, which is an acronym for Republicans in name only, a term some conservatives use to refer to Republicans who are more moderate or who they view as being so. Greitens, who formerly was Missouri Governor before resigning in disgrace in 2018, appears in the ad with an armed military tactical team outside a home and whispers, “The RINO feeds on corruption and is marked by the stripes of cowardice.” The team then breaks through the front door and tosses in what appear to be flash-bang grenades. Greitens then enters through the smoke saying “Join the MAGA crew. Get a RINO hunting permit. There’s no bagging limit, no tagging limit. and it doesn’t expire until we save the country.” Other candidates in Missouri condemned the video, as did the Missouri FOP and the majority leader of the Senate. Greitens campaign manager waved off the outrage saying, “if anyone doesn’t get the metaphor, they are either lying or dumb.” Talk about being completely blind to what’s happening around us. You give them eyes, father, but they do not see. Greitens resigned as Governor in 2018 amid criminal investigations and after he was accused of having an extramarital side order with his hairdresser and taking compromising photos of her to keep her mum.

A NEW STUDY OUT OF Budapest (Budapest?) took a look at how domesticated dogs use their senses to identify toys. The study involved asking dogs to bring humans certain toys in both well-lit and dimly lit rooms. Dogs apparently have a “multi-modal mental image” of objects. That means they don’t just use their sight to ID toys, but they use smell and texture, too. This is how they’re able to bring you a certain toy even when the room is dark. Ron’s dog, Hazel, knows the word KONG… but only when it’s filled with peanut butter.
Another Wallet Hub Wallop
Last week we told you a Wallet Hub survey ranked Little Rhody as the 4th least fun state in the country. Well, they’re coming after the biggest little state in the union again. As we get set for the Fourth Of July and Bristol preps for the oldest 4th of July parade in the nation, Wallet Hub came out with the Most and Least Patriotic states listing Rhode Island as number THREE in the Top Ten LEAST patriotic states. We think Wallet Hub must be headed up by a disgruntled Rhode Islander!
