NAACP Providence On Recent Court Appointments
NAACP Providence Branch is happy to see the RI Judiciary become more diverse.
The NAACP Providence Branch would like to applaud Governor Raimondo’s appointment and the Senate’s confirmation of Melissa Dubose and Christopher Smith to the RI District Court and Keith Cardoza to the Workers Compensation Court; the first person of color ever appointed to that court.
Although the NAACP Providence Branch is happy to see that the RI Judiciary will soon be more diverse, we remain diligent in asking for more diverse appointments because the new arrivals will bring the total judges of color to only five out of nearly ninety.
We still have a long way to go before the Judiciary comes close to matching the racial diversity of the state but we remain encouraged.
