Finding the news in Rhode Island – RIPBS reviews a changing landscape
The fairly new long form news show on RI PBS is called RI PBS Weekly. A recent show on January 27th, caught our eye as it reviewed the changing landscape of news, and news venues.
The pandemic has changed everything – some institutions such as the Providence Journal are now completely run “from home”, still with a newsprint edition and an expanding paradigm digital footprint.
Some digital and audio news sites were born – others expanded – a few died. RINewsToday had a year under us before the pandemic hit and while we have pivoted around the need to better inform our community, our business model has also pivoted – maybe for the better!
Rhode Island PBS Weekly explores the newspaper industry and the importance of local news in the democratic process. First, an in-depth report on the state of local newspapers in 2021. Then, a look at the documentary, “Under the Ground, The Story of Liberation News Service.” And in the continuing Kids Want to Know series, Lincoln High School students have questions about the state of local news.
