Mission

The WSO brings classical and orchestral pops performances to communities across Rhode Island. As a regional volunteer touring symphony, the WSO seeks to deliver high-quality live music and affordable performances to diverse communities. WSO ensures accessibility and appeals to a wide-ranging audience of varied backgrounds through programming that fluctuates between classical and orchestral pops.

History & Vision of our Organization

Established in 1966 as a continuing education initiative hosted by the Warwick Public Schools, WSO became an independent non-profit organization and by the 1980’s has served as a musical outlet for musicians of varied experience and training for musicians of all ages. WSO values our role in the fabric of Rhode Island’s musical community as a touring symphony. We seek to share our creative work with audiences that may not otherwise have easy access to quality live music events and we are enthusiastic about performing in both traditional and unconventional spaces. Our expanding membership of amateur adults, high school and college students, retired professionals, music educators, and life-long learners are dedicated to the social, spiritual, and cognitive benefits of presenting and attending live performances.

The WSO aims to provide an outlet for continued musical development for all our participants, serve as an artistic asset within our community, develop and diversify our audiences.  The WSO offers a variety of programs and collaborative partnerships with musical and non-musical organizations.  Our POP-UP series fosters cooperative engagements with other non-musical charities, non-profits, and service agencies. Our membership believes that music brings people together, and a concert can be more than just a concert.

In “normal times” WSO presents between 8 and 10 concerts annually in various settings across the Ocean State. In recent years, the WSO has ramped-up efforts to present original orchestral repertoire, featured a number of professional instrumental and vocal soloists, commissioned a half-dozen works by area composers, and actively collaborated with over a dozen instrumental and vocal organizations on an artistic level.
