To do in RI: Learn to Waltz at historic Rosecliff
What better place to learn how to waltz than at Rosecliff in Newport’s largest, most elegant ballroom?
On Friday evening, March 28, from 6-8:30 p.m., The Preservation Society of Newport County will host “Waltz into the Past,” offering introductory waltz lessons by The Dancing Feeling Studio, based in Warwick. The instructors will also perform a choreographed showcase dance before guests practice their new moves in the very room where Tessie Fair Oelrichs hosted Gilded Age parties in the early 1900s and Paramount Pictures filmed dance scenes for the 1974 version of “The Great Gatsby.”
No partner or dance experience is necessary.
Each ticket includes one glass of wine and light hors d’oeuvres.
The cost is $40 for Preservation Society members and $50 for non-members. Advance registration is required. Tickets are available through www.newportmansions.org/events/waltz-into-the-past.
The Preservation Society of Newport County, Rhode Island, is a nonprofit organization accredited by the American Alliance of Museums. It is dedicated to preserving and interpreting the area’s historic architecture, landscapes, decorative arts and social history. Its 11 historic properties – seven of them National Historic Landmarks – span more than 250 years of American architectural and social development.
