Ron & Jen’s Great Escape, Sept. 6, 2023 – Ron St. Pierre and Jen Brien
by Ron St. Pierre and Jen Brien, commentary
MY BIRTHDAY!
Most people celebrate themselves on their birthdays. Me? I celebrate God on mine. It is because of Him I am still alive to see 55. So, this week I would like to take this opportunity to recognize the One who has given me life.
Heavenly Father,
I thank you for protecting me from the world, from the enemy, and from myself. I thank you that I am alive and well. I thank you that You have not only given me a second chance, but You have given me 55 chances. I thank you for taking the darkness in my life and turning it into light. To you be all the glory! Amen.
Till next week my friends,
Jen

NEXT UP… THE WRECKING BALL
We said goodbye to McCoy Stadium this past Sunday. After years of sitting idle after the PawSox bolted to Worcester, McCoy stadium came alive again… or semi alive… as fans were welcomed back for music, food trucks and a final fireworks display. I don’t know why people continue to start Facebook petitions to “Save McCoy Stadium.” Folks, that ship has sailed. Pawtucket voters gave a thumbs-up to the property being used to create a mega-High School combining Tolman and Shea. Even if our lawmakers hadn’t stepped in it knee deep sending the PawSox out of town, the 80-plus-year old McCoy would’ve had a date with the wrecking ball as a new stadium would have been built on the (also decaying) Apex site.
A BRIEF RESPITE
With the Congressional RI District One primary over and the candidates for the November 7th General Election determined, RIers will get a brief respite from the blitzkrieg of political ads we’ve been subjected to on TV. Enjoy the brief intermission.
BROTHER CAN YOU SPARE… $4.75
Out of network ATM machine fees are at a record high. Bankrate finds the average total cost of an out of network ATM withdrawal is $4.75. Metro Atlanta has the highest fee at $5.33. On top of that, credit card fees are on the rise. Add in over 60% of Americans are now living paycheck to paycheck. Ouch.
WHERE’S YOUR EMILY POST
With Labor Day in the rear view, there IS still some time to hit the beach. With that in mind, let’s review Beach Etiquette that you should follow.
– If there’s a lot of open space, don’t sit too close
– Don’t litter
– No shaking off sand too close to others
– Remember, not everybody has your taste in music
– Don’t leave kids unattended (better yet, leave them at home)
– Don’t get overly amorous
– No staring
– No smoking… is there anything worse than being downwind of someone’s heart on the beach?
