RI Weather Today – Wed, Dec. 30, 2020
by Jack Donnelly, meteorologist
A midwestern storm system will be advancing eastward, but will spare us for another day, or at least until late at night when the first drops of rain are likely after 2am. There’s a strong southwesterly component to the system’s flow, so we will be warming gradually through the afternoon and evening, where our high will occur at 11:59:59pm, reaching the low to mid 40’s from morning lows in the upper 20’s. Southwesterly winds will be increasing slowly through the day and evening as well, some gusts approaching 30 mph as the warm front approaches and tries to nudge the sitting high pressure further to the east. A high overcast will be gradually lowering, so already filtered sunlight will be diminishing as the day progresses.
