RI Weather for December 21, 2022 – John Donnelly
by John Donnelly, meteorologist
High pressure dominates today, keeping the skies clear, other than a short period of high thin clouds during the morning as a quick upper ‘twist’ in the atmosphere sails through. Winds will be nearly calm for a change, so no chill factor to deal with, allowing the seasonable high of 39 actually feel not so bad. Winter Solstice occurs at 4:48pm, which is time of lowest yearly sun angle and various sun-worship celebrations worldwide, as the days slowly get longer all the way until June 21.

John Donnelly was born in Hialeah, Florida and moved back to Rhode Island and settled in Johnston, where he grew up until graduating from Lyndon State College in 1998 with a Bachelor of Science in Meteorology. As a child John always wanted to know how air moved, and he ran towards, not away from, thunder and lighting and various other ominous weather phenomena. He returned in 2001 to the old family neighborhood of Elmhurst where the McCabe’s, Donnelly’s, Walker’s and Callan’s have been since after the Civil War.
