Rhode Island Weather for August 31, 2023 – John Donnelly
by John Donnelly, meteorologist
High pressure pushes in from the northwest, keeping TS Idalia well to our south, with only some high cloud cover arcing in over the top during the day, eventually that will evaporate as well with the dry air taking hold.
We’ll have a wonderfully dry but cloud-covered morning for the kiddos heading off to their first day of school, eventually clearing out by pickup time or shortly thereafter with a nice and light northwesterly breeze. Highs top out in the upper 70’s with evening lows in the dry upper 50’s.
It’s an “A-” day!

John Donnelly was born in Hialeah, Florida and moved back to Rhode Island and settled in Johnston, where he grew up until graduating from Lyndon State College in 1998 with a Bachelor of Science in Meteorology. As a child John always wanted to know how air moved, and he ran towards, not away from, thunder and lighting and various other ominous weather phenomena.
