Rhode Island pro-life advocate Chris Young dead at 51

Chris Young, frequent political candidate and staunch pro-life advocate has died at the age of 51. He was the husband of Kara Russo Young, and the father of a young daughter, Mary.

In announcing his death, Kara posted on her Facebook page:

“I can’t believe I am writing this. I can’t believe this has happened. But my husband, Chris Young, passed away last night. It was a medical event that happened while he was driving on the highway (most likely a heart attack), when we were coming home after we all testified in favor of the Fetal Heartbeat Bill at the Rhode Island Statehouse. Chris was magnificent in his testimony. As always courageously defending defenseless human beings in the womb. He was fighting against the horrific tide of abortion-lust at the Statehouse and asking for legislators to put these innocent babies before themselves for once by simply acknowledging these human beings as alive once they have a HEARTBEAT. I believe that his consistent passion, commitment, and bravery ultimately took a toll on HIS heart. He cared about issues and PEOPLE of all walks of life, ages, races, etc. at a much higher level than anyone I have ever known, and he was EXTREMELY intelligent and talented. He HELPED more people than anyone I know. You wouldn’t believe how he went out of his way to help people. Even at his own great expense. He defended God when MANY shrank from doing so out of cowardice or apathy. He spoke the VOICE OF GOD! Words really cannot express our grief. We love him with all our heart. Please please please offer many many prayers.”

Christopher was born and grew up on Daboll Street in South Providence, Rhode Island. Chris lost his father at the young age of six and his mother at the age of ten. Chris’ father was a veteran in forces that served the highest casualty rate in World War II.

Chris attended Saint Michael’s and later Bishop McVinney as an orphan. Chris was later accepted into Classical High school and graduated in 1986. Chris put himself through school as an orphan and attended Northeastern University, the University of Rhode Island and graduated college with an Electrical Engineering degree.

Chris was an advocate for the poor and also fasted for 28 days to make Rhode Islanders more aware of the fact that 28% of RI children go to bed hungry. He fought for affordable housing in Providence. Chris’ Uncle, Joseph Young, took care of Chris’ brothers, his sister, and Chris after he was orphaned. Joseph Young was the Dean of Admissions at Harvard University and later worked directly under the Secretary of Education in Washington, D.C.

Chris had stated that his uncle, “instilled in me, as my mentor, the understanding of how necessary an education is because he, himself, came up from poverty through the great depression.”

Chris was a Media Consultant, Film Maker, founder of Narragansett Solar, Wind and Alternative Energy (NSWAE), Chris had served as the national director of the National Civil Rights Coalition (NCRC) and was an Electrical Engineer.

Chris was also a copyrighted song writer and singer.
