Rhode Island Foundation names Mendez, Moore to Board of Directors

Tony Mendez and Theresa Moore have been named to the Board of Directors of the Rhode Island Foundation. As the state’s largest funder of nonprofit organizations, the Foundation awarded a record $56 million in grants to more than 2,000 nonprofits in 2019.

“We are very pleased that Tony and Theresa are joining our Board. Each has distinguished accomplishments and brings a diverse range of experience to the Rhode Island Foundation.  Their perspectives will enable the Foundation to focus even more effectively on addressing disparities in the pursuit of our strategic priorities of educational success, healthy lives and economic security,” said Polly Wall, Board Chair.

Mendez is General Manager of Video Mundo Broadcasting, which operates WPMZ on 102.1-FM and 1110-AM. The station serves the Latino community in greater Providence.

The West Warwick resident is a member of the R.I. Broadcasters Association and serves on the board of directors of the R.I. Convention Center and on the Community Advisory Board of United Way of Rhode Island.

“It is an honor to be appointed to the board of the directors of the Rhode Island Foundation. I look forward to contributing and collaborating with the foundation in improving the lives of all Rhode Islanders,” said Mendez.

Moore is President of T-Time Productions. Founded in 2006, T-Time produces diverse and inclusive programming and content for various media platforms including television, film, digital and educational distribution. In addition, she is a professor at Providence College, teaching in the MBA, Masters of Urban Education, Global Studies and School of Continuing Education programs as well as implementing and supporting diversity, equity and inclusion pedagogical practices and curricula with the school’s faculty. 

Previously, she served as Director of Equity at the Highlander Institute in Providence, where she focused on issues of diversity, culturally relevant teaching/curriculum and equity as it pertained to students’ educational experiences and was a corporate executive with ESPN and Coca-Cola. 

The East Providence native serves on the board of directors of The Harvard Varsity Club and Trinity Repertory Theater. She earned a BA at Harvard University and an MBA at Emory University.

During these challenging and unprecedented times, the Foundation has continued its leadership role in the community, and I look forward assisting them as they work to address issues of inequity in healthcare, education and economic opportunity,” said Moore.
