Rhode Island events: We remember September 11th

Today, there will be several events recognizing the 22nd anniversary of 9/11.

8:30am – RI State House – State of Rhode Island will hold its 9/11 Remembrance Ceremony marking the 22nd anniversary of the terrorist attacks on September 11, 2001. The ceremony will be held at the State House to honor those who lost their lives on 9/11 and the members of our military who have sacrificed their lives.The ceremony will also feature remarks from Patrick Nassaney, father of Shawn Nassaney, a Pawtucket resident and Bryant University graduate who was on United flight 175 on the morning of September 11, 2001. The ceremony is set for 8:30am on Monday, Sept. 11th at the Rhode Island State House Bell Area.

9am – Central Falls – Fire & Police Station – Mayor Maria Rivera, Central Falls elected officials, and members of the Central Falls Police & Fire Departments for a Memorial Service

9am – RI Veterans Memorial Cemetery – military groups will assemble, prayers, vocal performances, presentation of colors, and reading of names of Rhode Islanders lost at 9/11.

10am – East Providence – City Hall commemorative ceremony

10am – Rhode Island College – commemorative 2-milk walk in the quad, representing the flights of stairs at the World Train Center

10:28am – Warwick – at the Oakland Beach 9/11 Memorial – officials will participate in ceremony that will include a presentation by survivor Judy Cobden, Rev. Marciano of St Kevin’s, pledge of allegiance, etc.

Noon – Newport – Remembrance Run 5K run is a 5k/1.5-mile walk, start/finish at the John H. Chafee Fitness Center It is a tribute, a celebration and a way to remember our fallen heroes
