Rhode Island Comic Con is back. Bringing tens of thousands to Providence. Features historic Clerks Reunion.
If you are around and about in downtown Providence from Friday through Sunday you’ll probably think it’s Halloween all over again – if you didn’t know that Rhode Island Comic Con is in town. Filling hotel rooms and more, tens of thousands participants – many in full, realistic costume, will join the celebrities, artists, and cosplayers – will be getting their photos and autographs, visiting vendor booths, and participating in panel discussions. Comic book authentication and grading will be happening, too.
Since its inception in 2012, Rhode Island Comic Con has been known for its cast reunions at their annual pop culture event in Providence, Rhode Island. None have been as epic as the Clerks reunion planned for this November 5-7, 2021.
Clerks is a 1994 black-and-white comedy film written, produced, and directed by Kevin Smith. Clerks is the first of Smith’s View Askewniverse films, and introduces several recurring characters, notably Jay and Silent Bob (Jason Mewes and Smith).
Leading the pack in this year’s cast reunion is Silent Bob himself, Kevin Smith. The actor, writer, director, and producer will make a one-day appearance at Rhode Island Comic Con to kick off the weekend. Fans will have the opportunity to participate in the Kevin Smith VIP Experience, which includes autograph and photo opportunities with Smith, as well as dedicated seating in an on-stage Q&A.
At the on-stage appearance, fans can expect to see some special guests pop in. Joining Smith for the reunion include Jason Mewes (Jay), Brian O’Halloran, Jeff Anderson, Marilyn Ghigliotti, Trevor Fehrman, Kevin Weisman, and Scott Schiaffo. While Smith’s appearance is Friday only, the remaining cast members will appear all weekend, offering autographs, photos, and on-stage appearances.
To meet Smith, participate in the VIP Experience, and attend the on-stage Q&A, fans must purchase convention admission.
This year’s Rhode Island Comic Con is scheduled for November 5-7, 2021, at the Rhode Island Convention Center and Dunkin Donuts Center Arena. Hours are Friday, 3-9pm; Saturday, 10am to 7pm, and Sunday, 10am to 5pm. Tickets are currently on sale through the event’s website at www.ricomiccon.com and all Toy Vault locations.
In past years, RI Comic Con has attracted as many as 100,000+ to the downtown Providence area, filling the city’s hotels and restaurants, parking lots, and driving tourism and economic development for a 3-day period. Events overlap between the Convention Center and The Dunk. The Omni and The Graduate are both sold out.
Events include celebrities, cosplayers, artists and tattoo artists. Autographs and photo opps are available with celebrities from wrestlers to the popular Lou Ferrigno and William Shatner.
There is an Electronic Pinball Tournament, Comic Book authentication, Panel Discussions, and an After Party on Saturday night at the Omni Providence. There is a CosPlay contest, with age categories and prizes. All events are on the website and are updated continuously.
