Providence starting first Soccer League for 5-10 year olds. Sign ups now.
Mayor Brett P. Smiley and the Recreation Department today announced the launch of the 2024 Recreation Soccer League. The league is the first of its kind in Providence, providing an opportunity for youth across Rhode Island to participate in an inclusive, weekly soccer experience. The league officially kicks off on Saturday, April 13 and registration will remain open until Wednesday, April 10, or until all available slots are filled.
“The launch of the 2024 Recreation Department Soccer League is an exciting opportunity for children across Providence to engage in physical activity, teamwork and community building,” said Mayor Brett Smiley. “I know first-hand how much our community enjoys soccer all year round and I’m so proud that we’re able to offer this initiative, reinforcing our dedication to providing accessible and enriching experiences to our youth.”
The 2024 Soccer League is free for Providence residents and open to all Rhode Island residents for a $100 fee. The league will take place at Bucklin Field, located adjacent to the West End Recreation Center and sessions will be held every Saturday from April 13 to May 18, 2024, from 9:00 AM to 12:00 PM. Players will be organized into three ages groups: 5-6, 7-8 and 9-10. End times will vary based on age groups and participants are encouraged to check-in with recreation staff upon drop-off for specific details.
“We are excited to introduce the 2024 Soccer League, a program designed to foster teamwork, athleticism and community spirit among Providence’s youth,” said Recreation Department Director Stephen Grace. “The Providence Recreation Department aims to provide inclusive and dynamic experiences for all children. We look forward to welcoming participants for an exciting soccer season.”
