The Galleries of the historic Providence Art Club will host new exhibitions featuring six artists working in encaustic, acrylic, and photography from May 9 through May 27, 2022. Exhibition receptions with the artists will take place on Sunday, May 15 from 2 – 4pm and gallery programs will also take place during the shows, giving visitors the chance to meet and learn from exhibitors. The galleries of the Art Club are free and open to the public Sundays – Fridays from 12-4pm each day. All works on view are available for purchase.

On view in Maxwell Mays Gallery encaustic artists Angel Dean, Georgia Nassikas, and Nancy Whitcomb will have work on view in the show Fahrenheit. Dean and Nassikas will exhibit works that feature two perspectives on color and abstraction, while Whitcomb’s work is more narrative and whimsical. Dean, Nassikas, and Whitcomb will host a free, public, art process demonstration on Monday, May 16 at 2:30pm.

In the Mary Castelnovo Gallery, current Club President and RISD alumnus Shawn Kenney will exhibit recent acrylic still life paintings. Kenney’s paintings are dramatic and engaging.

In the Dodge House Gallery, photographers Gershon Stark and Cindy Horovitz Wilson will show alongside one another in the exhibition Emergence: Perception and Depth. Stark’s work is figurative, while Wilson’s focuses on the textures of vernacular architecture. Wilson and Stark will cohost an artists’ talk on Monday, May 16 at 1:30pm that will be free and open to the public.

About the Providence Art Club:

Founded in 1880 to stimulate the appreciation of art in the community, the Club has long been a place for artists and art patrons to congregate, create, display and circulate works of art.  Located along Thomas Street, in the shadow of the First Baptist Church, the Providence Art Club is a picturesque procession of historic houses, home to studios, galleries and the clubhouse. Through its public programs, its art instruction classes for members and its active exhibition schedule, the Providence Art Club continues a tradition of sponsoring and supporting the visual arts in Providence and throughout Rhode Island.
