Free Summer Gym Access for Rhode Island teens through Planet Fitness program

Rhode Island teens looking for a place to stay active this summer can sign up for free gym access through Planet Fitness’ annual High School Summer Pass program.

The program is open to high school teens ages 14 to 19 and runs from June 1 through August 31 at participating Planet Fitness locations in the United States and Canada, including locations throughout Rhode Island.

Teens must register online at PlanetFitness.com/SummerPass and are required to use the location where they sign up. Those under 18 must register with a parent or guardian.

Now in its sixth year, the program is designed to give teens a free, structured option for fitness during the summer months, when school-based sports, activities and wellness routines may be paused.

Planet Fitness says the program includes access to strength and cardio equipment, stretching areas, the Planet Fitness app and free fitness training where available. This year’s program is being offered in partnership with Gymshark, which will provide discounts to participants.

The company points to teen mental and physical wellness as a major reason for the summer program. In a national survey commissioned by Planet Fitness, nearly all teens surveyed said they had struggled emotionally or mentally, with many reporting anxiety, concerns about body image, or barriers to exercising more often. Cost was also cited as a factor, with many teens saying they would work out at a gym if it were free.

For Rhode Island families, the program also arrives at a time when youth fitness, summer structure and access to affordable activities remain ongoing concerns. Planet Fitness noted that 15.4% of Rhode Island teens are considered overweight or obese, underscoring the need for more accessible options for physical activity.

Participating Rhode Island Planet Fitness locations include clubs in Providence, Coventry, Cranston, Cumberland, East Providence, Johnston, Lincoln, Middletown, North Kingstown, North Providence, North Smithfield, Pawtucket, Smithfield, Warwick and Woonsocket.
