Free Fishing Sunday – August 2, 11am-4 pm
Join park staff Sunday afternoons in June, July, and August for some FREE family fun. Catch some fish, learn about the river, and earn a Junior Angler badge. All fishing material and bait are provided.
Participants can drop-in at the Kelly House Barn at the Blackstone River State Park.
Registration is not required and the program is free and open to all ages/skill levels.

Mosquito Alert
West Nile risk raised to “high” statewide. Mosquito samples from Providence, East Providence and North Providence tested positive—an escalation from the earlier Cranston finding.
The Rhode Island Department of Environmental Management (DEM) and Rhode Island Department of Health (RIDOH) have confirmed additional detections of West Nile Virus (WNV) in the state this mosquito season. The virus was found in mosquito samples collected by DEM in East Providence, North Providence, and Providence on July 20 and tested by the Rhode Island State Health Laboratories. The other mosquito samples collected statewide showed no signs of Eastern Equine Encephalitis (EEE) virus, Jamestown Canyon Virus (JCV), or additional WNV. Check RIDOH’s arboviral surveillance data webpage for weekly test results.
Rhode Island’s risk level for WNV is now high statewide. WNV is the main mosquito-borne disease in the US. While most people with WNV don’t get sick, about one in five people who are infected develop a fever and other symptoms. There are no vaccines to prevent or medications to treat WNV in people. AAA Northeast: Be Wary of Flood-Damaged Cars Hitting the Market

Check for damp or musty odors inside the vehicle.

Pull back the carpet to look for mud, rust or water stains, especially in used cars where the carpet has been replaced or recently shampooed.

Open the trunk, hood and doors to inspect for debris or corrosion on the door frames, hinges and under the weather stripping. Check for rust on the underside of the vehicle.

Check for brittle wires under the dashboard.

Inspect the engine air filter for signs of water damage or staining.

Look for fog or moisture in the interior and exterior lights, as well as the instrument panel.

Check all warning lights, window motors, air conditioning and other electrical components to ensure they’re working properly. While a malfunctioning part alone doesn’t indicate flood damage, combined with other signs of potential water damage, it could be a cause for concern.

If the price looks too good to be true, it probably is. Used car prices remain historically high, CARFAX reports. Find a reputable dealership when looking to purchase a used car.
