Memorial Hospital Trust Advisory Committee formed

Welcomes all Interested Parties to Apply to Serve on the Committee

Mayor Donald R. Grebien announced the formation of the Memorial Hospital Trust Fund Advisory Committee in order to attract proposals for alternative uses of the charitable funds that have accumulated since the closure of Memorial Hospital and the considerable interest that will be earned from the trusts in the future. All interested individuals are asked to apply to serve on the Committee.

“The Coronavirus pandemic has highlighted the void left by the lack of services formerly provided by Memorial Hospital to our community. In light of that, we are working with the Attorney General’s Office and the Bank of America Trustees to ensure that the funds are spent appropriately and in the best interest of our residents. We ask everyone that is interested to apply to serve on the Committee to ensure the community has a voice in how those funds are used,” said Mayor Grebien.

The Committee will be composed of stakeholders from around the city and the Blackstone Valley, along with medical and legal experts, to work closely in an advisory capacity with those officials from Bank of America who are serving as the trustees of these funds.

An RFP process to help expand the Trustees outreach into the community will be set up by the Committee to assist them in deciding how to best match the needs of the community and the intent of the donors. The committee will consult with the trustees and make recommendations on matters such as the eligibility requirements to submit a proposal and how much of the funds should be allocated to one or more proposals.

“The City will continue to advocate for my residents to receive the services that they are entitled to. By creating this advisory group, we will ensure that these funds stay here in Pawtucket where they belong,” said Mayor Grebien

The application period to serve on the committee is open effective immediately and will run through Friday, October 16 at 4:00 p.m. The application will be available on the City of Pawtucket website http://www.pawtucketri.com/MemorialCommittee and must be submitted by the deadline in order to be considered.
