Johnston, Rhode Island’s Joe Hicks takes First at ATA’s National Truck Driving Championships
Rhode Island’s Joe Hicks of XPO Logistics has taken First Place in the 4-Axle Tractor Trailer Class at this year’s ATA National Truck Driving Championships in Indianapolis. Hicks returned to Nationals this year for an impressive tenth time. A resident of Johnston, Hicks is a six time Rhode Island Truck Driving Championships Grand Champion and 2010 National TDC Rookie of the Year.
Joe is married to Barbara, who has been described as the “secret weapon” of his numerous victories. Barbara helps him put in long hours of on-course practice and studying safety rules, which are a major part of state and national truck driving championships. The couple have four children: Joey Jr., Anthony, Billy and Jake.
Known as the “Super Bowl of Safety,” ATA’s National Truck Driving & Step Van Championships took place from August 21-24 in Indianapolis, bringing together 422 drivers from 49 states with a combined total of nearly 685 million accident-free miles.
“Joe Hicks is a tremendous source of pride for RITA and Rhode Island,” commented RITA President Chris Maxwell. “Congratulations to Joe – the legend lives on!”
