Johnston children will get all new, transformed school buildings as residents say ‘yes’
Johnston voters approved bonds of over $215 million in a special town referendum held April 5th. This enables the town’s plan to completely revamp its school buildings to move forward.
The vote was an 86% approval in a voter turnout of approx. 5.3%. The overall project to re-do Johnston school buildings
The plan is to build a new Early Childhood Center, and a new Elementary School, and to significantly renovate the Middle School and High School to “like new”.
The new construction, renovation and consolidation will open up four properties which could be sold.
The Early Childhood Center will accommodate 359 students.
The Elementary School will accommodate 1,100 students.
The Middle School will accommodate 1,066 students.
The High School will accommodate 799 students.
The construction and renovation is set to be completed in 2024/2025.
