The Central Rhode Island Chamber of Commerce is concerned about the Washington Bridge closure, as it may have significant impacts on local businesses and economic activity in the area.

If your business is impacted by the Washington Bridge closure, take these steps

Is your business being impacted?

Your business may be impacted in a number of different ways. You can’t get to your customers, your vehicle isn’t allowed to travel on some of the alternate routes, your customers aren’t coming to you, you can’t make your deliveries, you have lost revenue, among many others.

It may be logistics or a loss of revenue. If so, Rhode Island Commerce wants to hear from you.

They are gathering a list of impacted businesses and will make information accessible to them as it becomes available. Call 401-521-HELP (4357) or [email protected]

At a press conference yesterday, Governor McKee said in response to a question about compensation for loss business while the bridge is closed, that the federal government has funds to help with city and town costs for law enforcement overtime and municipal services such as that. He did not respond directly about loss business for small businesses – especially in the time of year most lucrative for turning a profit – the holiday season. But, if we put a compelling case together there may be funds to help businesses who suffer documented losses.

TRACK

Don’t wait, thinking you can reconstruct your losses. Track them as they come up.

It is important to track any losses daily!  Documentation will be key in any future assistance that may become available.

Hi I own Lavish Salon is East Providence and we have been impacted greatly by the bridge closure. All our clients canceled right before Christmas when it’s suppose to be the busiest season of the year. Some of my girls have been staying home because they have no work. All my girls don’t even want to deal with the hassle of the traffic just to get to work. I have one girl that works for me that comes from New Bedford and is a nightmare everyday she has to come in. I needed to find someone to pick up my daughter from daycare everyday because I won’t be able to pick her up in time with the traffic. The salon is losing alot of money and this has been extremely stressful.
