Hi there, I’m Cheryl, a volunteer at the RISPCA in Warwick, full-time treat dealer, poop scoop enthusiast, and unpaid publicist for dogs who deserve way more followers on social media.
This week I would like to introduce you to meet Baloo and tell you all about The Bare Necessities of Life according to Baloo!

Much like his famous namesake, Baloo has mastered the art of living by the bare necessities. Why worry about life’s troubles when you could be making friends, taking naps, going for jungle walks and accepting lots of much needed belly rubs?

This 3-year-old shepherd/husky mix approaches every day with the carefree spirit of a dog who believes happiness is just one snack, one jungle adventure, and one cuddle away. His previous caretaker described him as submissive, social, and incredible with people. In Jungle Book terms, Baloo is less “king of the jungle” and more “mayor of the jungle,”

Need a hiking buddy? Baloo’s in. Need a swimming partner? Baloo is already waiting for you in the water. Need someone to remind you that a good nap can solve almost anything? Baloo considers that a personal responsibility.
Like the original Baloo, he is happiest when surrounded by all his jungle friends. He has lived happily with both dogs and cats and enjoys making new companions wherever he goes. If there ever was a Jungle Book sequel starring dogs, Baloo would absolutely be hosting the cast party.
Baloo is crate trained and has earned free-roaming privileges in the home and in the jungle without destructive behavior or accidents. He knows “sit,” “paw,” and “down,” although he may occasionally suggest replacing training sessions with snack breaks to refuel. After all, every wise jungle teacher knows motivation comes in treat form.
He loves strolls through his favorite section of the jungle, car rides, swimming, tough chew toys, and playtime with other dog friends. His version of the “bare necessities” includes a toy, a couch, and a BFF that will tell him he is handsome several times per day.
Because Baloo sometimes gets so excited about the “bare necessities” of life, he forgets that he is not a lap dog. He would do best in a home with older children (teens and up). He has no history of bites and word on the street, he has been a model citizen for all his grooming and veterinary visits.
What Baloo is searching for isn’t a jungle-it is a BFF. He would love someone who would sing along to life’s adventures, appreciate a little silliness, and understand that sometimes the secret to happiness is simply simplicity; a walk, a treat, and someone to love. If you are looking to experience the type of friendship that Baloo and Mowgli had, then adopting Baloo may very well be your “bare necessity.”
