Former Sen. Donna Nesselbush withdraws from Lieutenant Governor consideration; offers to return donations

Donna M. Nesselbush, an early front-runner for appointment as Lieutenant Governor in Rhode Island, has withdrawn her name from consideration today and offered to return donations to anyone who contributed towards this effort.

Nesselbush is former Senator from District 15, where she served from 2011 to 2020, when she did not seek re-election. She is a partner in the law firm, Marasco & Nesselbush , with offices in Providence, Wakefield, Warwick, and Woonsocket. She is a Pawtucket resident, and a Democrat.

Friends and supporters received this letter today – with a link to the letter she sent to Gov. McKee, below:

“In a letter to Governor McKee [below], I explain why I wanted to serve, and why I now have decided that the timing is just not right for me.

I thank you from the bottom of my heart for being right there to support me when I needed you most. Accordingly, I want you to hear my decision to withdraw directly from me.

No one knows the future, but I know that I will always be an advocate for Rhode Island, small business owners and all people, especially under-represented communities. I strongly believe women, those identifying as LGBTQ, and all people of color need a seat at the table to build the strongest – and most inclusive – Rhode Island possible.

Thank you again for your support, and please know that I am happy to refund your contribution to my LG campaign. Simply reply to this email with your name and mailing address, and a check will be issued. If I don’t hear from you, know that your contribution will be used to support like-minded candidates and the causes we all hold dear.

In closing, many of you are my political supporters, but most of you are my trusted friends and family. I am honored and privileged to have your support, and I sincerely wish you and yours health and safety.

Thanks for always standing with me,

Letter to Gov. McKee:

Thought she was the best of the candidates; disappointed but understand. And her response was very classy – agreed.
