Fine Art Insights – Podcast with Michael Rose
A new podcast that will focus on issues related to the visual arts, the art market, and more has been launched by Michael Rose. Fine Art Insights gives a basic overview of commercial galleries and what the future of the business might look like.

Who is Michael Rose?
Michael Rose is an art historian, gallerist, and appraiser based in Southern New England. Currently the Gallery Manager at the Providence Art Club, he is responsible for all aspects of gallery administration and oversees exhibitions in three unique gallery spaces. Prior to joining the Art Club Michael was a public relations and development professional and consulted for a variety of arts-focused organizations. Through his current freelance work he focuses on advising collectors, and artists, providing appraisal services, as well as speaking and teaching projects.
Michael has worked with hundreds of artists and thousands of works of art. Under his leadership, the Galleries of the Providence Art Club were recognized as one of the top three art galleries in Rhode Island by the Providence Journal and also won a coveted Best of Rhode Island Award for Best Art Gallery in Providence from Rhode Island Monthly. Through his work coordinating an ambitious exhibition schedule at one of the nation’s oldest arts organization, he has gained experience of value to artists, collectors, as well as fellow gallery and non-profit professionals. As a gallerist Michael has collaborated with numerous artists and organizations to successfully mount and publicize shows and events, including the major exhibition Making Her Mark: The Founding Women of the Providence Art Club, 1880. He enjoys aiding artists in realizing the potential of their work.
A passionate speaker on topics related to art history and art business, Michael has given presentations at the RISD Museum, the University of Massachusetts, the Boston Athenaeum, and the Museum of Fine Arts, Boston, among others. He also teaches courses on art history and art business regularly. Michael has published articles and reviews on art, architecture, and film for Big Red & Shiny and Art New England, and now writes pieces regularly for his blog. Michael was named founding Art Editor for the Boston-based literary journal Boston Accent Lit in 2016.
Michael earned his Bachelor of Arts in Art History from Providence College and his Certificate in Appraisal Studies at New York University, where he studied under some of the nation’s most respected art appraisers. He has also completed coursework in Art Consulting and Photographing Fine Art at RISD and regularly participates in professional development workshops with the Appraisers Association of America and the New England Museum Association. Michael was a member of the Fall 2017 cohort of Practice//Practice, AS220’s nationally regarded professional development program for arts administrators.
An active member of the arts community, Michael is a past Board Member of Rhode Island Latino Arts and Gallery Night Providence. He has also served on advisory committees for the RISD Museum Gallery Lecturers and the Art League of Rhode Island. Additionally, he has been featured as a Reviewer at RISD’s annual Portfolio Review Day and a Celebrity Guide for Gallery Night Providence.
Michael maintains memberships in a variety of professional organizations and is currently an Associate Member of the Appraisers Association of America, a student member of the Royal Institution of Chartered Surveyors, and an independent member of the New England Museum Association, the Association of Historians of American Art, and The International Art Market Studies Association.
