Massachusetts must wear face coverings when they cannot practice social distancing – this is for everyone over the age of 2. For all workers and customers – at all times in grocery stores, retail stores, public transportation – effective May 6th.
Signs have gone up in Tiverton, RI announcing the closing of all recreation areas, including Grinnell beach, and others to residents of Tiverton. Police are monitoring parking lots.
Community College of Rhode Island has announced that it will hold a virtual commencement on May 29, and that all summer courses will be delivered online. Graduates will be invited to also walk with next year’s graduating class.
Rhode Island supermarkets have begun limiting purchases of meat to 2 or 3 packages, to stave off a potential shortage – rumors of one are disputed, though they have had the effect of consumers buying many more packages than normal.
A decontamination unit for masks, made by Battelle, has been brought to RI by FEMA, with the capability of disinfecting 80,000 masks a day. Some medical groups have opposed reusing masks. Similar units are working in Connecticut and Massachusetts.
Wheaton College has “affirmed [its] intention” to deliver a fall semester on campus, with precautions in place in order to ensure safety and health at the school.

Parks: Phase 1, reduced capacity opening, increased enforcement, no cookouts or organized sports, limited time, 6 feet apart, same 5 people; Phase 2, relaxed standards
Beaches: Phase 1, not open; Phase 2, Memorial Day? – restrictive parking, and use of pavilion and bathrooms. Goal is to stay 6 feet apart, overall capacity restrictions. Continue to wear masks.
Childcare – work to open June 1, many changes in size, groups, etc.
Questions:
Revised data that happened yesterday – doesn’t impact dates for reopening. Not yet going down the curve, but we are on a plateau. Testing regime after stay at home order is released: Testing is one critical tool
Will stimulus money benefit illegal immigrants? Governor is concerned, population is afraid to get tested, treated. Regardless of political views, it’s in the interest of all Rhode Islanders to get this population tested and treated.
Garden Centers: Will be announced on Monday, stay tuned.
Providence street closures and parks – respects mayor’s decision – people deserve to go outside – no congregating – enforcement will be in place, Providence police.
Courts may extend closure beyond May 17th
